New Ashtray module

Hey guys,

I tried to install my XM radio in the Ashtray cover. Because of the curviture of the cover it didnt work out.

I need to buy a whole new ashtray module. Is this available? and if so, how much is it? (and is it in stock?).

Thanks,
-RX8J

Just curious RX8J - what XM receiver did you try to install? I'm kicking around doing some surgery on mine to get a Roady2 to fit, but I'm a little hesitant...

I tried something different liquid. I saw your pics (and it was nice). What I tried to do was mount my XM Commander IN the ashtray lid. I cut a rectangular hole in the ashtray cover. Then I mounted the XM Commander in the mounting tray it comes with. When I tried to install it, I didnt take into account that the RX8 has a curved or concave shape to the cover of the ashtray. When I tried to mount a flat XM Commander tray in the sloped cover, it obviously would not seal up right. So then I tried taking a heat gun to the Commander mounting tray (to try to match the RX8 curved aspect). This came out looking really bad. Basically I am out of luck.

I already ordered the new ashtray from Trussville (I think it's on it's way already) and a new tray from Terk for the Commander. I am going to instead make a wood mount to go inside the ashtray then I will use black felt to cover the wood. The XM Commander should look really nice that way. Plus it will give me a place to mount my switch and LED for the input switcher I am about to build.

I already ordered the parts for the switch, so I will build one as well. If you want, you can wait for me and I will let you know if I have any difficulties with it. If not, go ahead and give it a shot yourself, it should work. I will be using wood to fill the space in, I'll do my best to take pics.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the ash tray module? This last weekend, I did my surgery and installed my Roady2. It looks/works great (pics in the audio forum to follow), but if/when I sell the car, I may just want to replace the tray with a non-modified piece.
