Minor refinement: the Inteceptor-X is a hardware modification of the MicroTech units. The units that arrived were not made correctly and replacements will arrive in a couple weeks.

Latest news: Scott expects the units to ship from Australia 9/9 and arrive in Florida 9/16. Estimate a week to make final modifications/tuning and you're looking at starting to ship around 9/23 and in customer hands by 9/30. Could be a few days sooner than that but I think that's a reasonable target given the current situation.
In the meantime Scott hasn't been idle. He's almost finished working on data logging capabilities. Tell the Inteceptor-X what trigger points you want (e.g. above 10 psi boost and 6k rpm) and it will store up to five minutes of telemetry for download at a later point. No need to have a laptop in the car while driving. Another feature he thinks he can implement is reading the OEM knock sensor and automatically retarding timing by a few degrees. The last improvement he's looking into is a separate accessory that will allow the unit to read the stock O2 sensor. He'll know if it can read down to 11.0 in a couple days. (Mine only goes to 12.0 using the CanScan.)
In related news Scott uses and recommends 3rd gen trailing spark plugs for both trailing and leading application in the RX-8. You have to use a couple shims to ensure correct seating but he finds the X-shaped tip better suited to stop/go daily driving. They're range 9's so they have a reduced chance of detonation and are only $10 each.
Once the units ship he's thinking of getting a self-help forum going so we can educate each other on what works and what doesn't. I think it's a good idea and over time we can develop a wide body of knowledge that will benefit everyone who has one. The common tendency for people is to be good about communication when they have a problem/need help, but then fall off the face of the earth once their problem is solved--without passing that information on to anyone else. I'd like to avoid that here.

Latest update:
ECUs are currently in customs and Scott expects to receive them by tomorrow. The first part of next week will be spent prepping them for shipment and he may be able to start sending them out by the 23rd. So things are still on track as per my previous update. If all goes well you should expect to get a call from Scott the middle of next week confirming what mods you have on the car. Those who also have a turbine awaiting upgrade might have to wait a little longer but I don't have any specifics regarding that.
In other news I notice Acosta Motorsports is on the buyer's list. Very interesting, that. I think it says a lot that Acosta is interested in buying one and that Scott is willing to sell it to them.

A couple other things: the 5min onboard data logging is implemented, but neither the knock sensor or O2 sensor are. Scott has a target dyno number for the turbine upgrade in mind but he won't say anything concrete until he can upload another dyno video. He's definitely a "show first, hype later" kinda guy which is refreshing.
While I'm naturally dissapointed the units haven't shipped sooner I understand some things are out of his control so I don't hold it against him. I'm also trying to reduce the number of calls he has to field by relaying everything I learn. Once I get the unit I plan to schedule some dyno time to fine tune and will post the results.

Once I receive the unit, I'll do the same. I have a stock baseline dyno and a dyno with my current mods (see signature). It'll be good to see the cold-hard facts of the dyno, which will show the car's progession from stock to rock. I definitely agree that it has been difficult waiting, but as I've said before it will be worth it to receive a complete, finished product that performs to the customers expectation.... and we are a fickle lot, ain't we??? lol.
Look forward to continuing our discussions after we receive the units.

Just checking to see if anyone has heard any updates on the ems. I guess if things are still on schedule they should be near completion and be shipped tomorrow. Also any word on the progress of the turbo upgrades?
