Car is running with new engine, got flashing CEL & no power steering

Finally my car is running after the blown engine. Everything is puting back together except for the following changes:

Wastegate is connected to the compressor outlet (before it was connected to the lower intake manifold).
Interceptor vacuum is connected to the nipple after the throttle body (before it was connected to the lower intake manifold).
All boost gauges are connected to the same hose as Interceptor.
Blow off value is connected to the lower intake manifold.
Boost controller is not connected at this point.

I am breaking in the car for now, so I haven't gone into boost yet, but I have the following CELs:

P2096 System too rich Bank 1
P0172 System too rich Bank 1
P0171 System too lean Bank 1
P0139 O2 Sensor circuit slow response
P0302 Cyslinder 2 misfire

The check engine light is not solid on all the time, but instead, it keeps flashing while driving. I put 80 miles on it so far, below 5000rpm and no boost.

Another big problem I have now is no power steering. I took it to dealer yesterday, and they found the code c1099 for power steering, which is the EPS motor mulfunction code. Dealer told me that the possible cause may be an open or short circuit on the wire harness between the EPS motor and the EPS control module. They want $345 just to find out where the problem is! I took the car back and I am going to check the wire harness tonight.

Any input regarding the CELs & the EPS problem?

Thanks and regards,

Sammy

The system too rich codes are normal. I don't understand how you have a code for system too lean at the same time, but that one's not good. I wouldn't drive the car too much until you find out why the cel is blinking. I definitely wouldn't go into boost.

I would recommend putting the emanage back in just to test and see if that blinking cel goes away. Also, give Scott a call and see what he says. Its probably not related to the Interceptor, but he may have some good suggestions.

doesn't a flashing CEL mean a critical problem...like detonation?

The engine ran fine & normal even though the cel was flashing. I didn't feel anything abnormal during the rpm range (1000-5000) I drove yesterday. The only thing was the blow off valve did blow off slightly when I let off throttle at around -10 to -5 Hg. Other than that, every thing looks normal:
EGT max 1400F,
oil temp max 210F at stop & go traffic during the date but stay ~190F most of the time
A/F ratio at 14.9 when crusing, but below 10 (the meter stay at 10 as it is the min. reading available) when idle

the car has no CEL for detonation. It simply retards timing if it hears a knock. The flashing CEL is usually caused by misfire in turbo'd 8's. Nothing too serious.

I did the 20-brake reset on the pcm tonight and after that, I got solid CEL, no flashing anymore. I will pull the code again tomorrow to see what code it is.

I have limited experience with this technical stuff, but doesn't the interceptor eliminate the knock sensor? If so, then the timing won't be retarded like it would without the interceptor.

whoa. you're right! I forgot that the Interceptor eliminates the knock sensor. But, he's not knocking anyway, that we can tell. The flashing CEL is a misfire.

I'm pretty sure that the interceptor doesn't eliminate the knock sensor, it only removes the PCM's ability to control it. The CEL will still flash, but the timing/throttle cannot be altered.

Got another set of CEL last night:

P0172 system too rich bank 1
P0506 idle control system rpm lower than expected
P0300 random/multiple cyclinder misfire detected
P2097 post catalyst fuel trim system too rich bank 1
P0410 secondary air injection system malfunction

Is there anything I should worry about these codes?

I retarded the timing on t_rmp screen from 30 to 25 starting from 2500rpm all the way to 9000rpm as suggested by Scott after resetting the pcm. The car run almost the same as before, or maybe I just didn't feel the difference.

This morning, the CEL came back and I will check what codes are they tonight or tomorrow.

I just started having the same problem with the flashing CEL. It just started happening the other day, but whenever I change elevation up or down, it starts flashing. There is no change in the drivibility of the car, and I am not in boost at the times it has gone off. Its a really weird problem. When I'm on level ground, it doesn't happen at all.

We took apart my blown engine, and found a broken apex seal.

During my break-in, I observed the following data:

idle rpm after warm up 800-1000, a/f ratio (from innovate xd-1) 11.0-11.5
very light throttle (less than 30%) acceleration up to 4000rpm, a/f ratio 13.8-15.8
crusing at 6th gear, 3250 rpm, -16 Hg, a/f 15.8-16.8
crusing at 5th gear, 4500 rpm, -16 Hg, a/f 16.8-17.5

water temp at 185-195 F depending on outside temp
oil temp at ~180-215 F depending on outside temp

I don't have a/f ratio data on boost as I am still keeping it under zero psi.

Any one can give me an idea of what your readings are under similar condition? I don's want to blow the engine again before get it turned.

Thanks and regards,

Sammy

the stock ECU keeps AFR at around 13 during cruise below 4250RPM and it drops to 11.X above.
