A thermostat is just setting the baseline temperature where your car will heat up to, and then try to keep the heat from getting any higher. If your car can't already keep the temp at the stock 185f thermostat, changing to a 170f thermostat won't help you.

If you are trying to get down to your thermostat temp, you need to improve the radiator efficiency and/or radiator capacity. Larger capacity will always mean a thicker radiator. Better efficiency can be obtained through ducting, shrouding, hood venting, straightening fins, and of course making sure your radiator system is clean and free of clogs.

Mazmart's products are great, though you need to address the entire system

The radiator price I got from him for a brand new OEM one was unbeatable and made a huge difference compared to a 109,000 mile old radiator.

Your cooling system will definitely need more than a thermostat in that brutal heat. I've seen people use larger radiators and some even add radiators for the extreme conditions.
