Is Hinson close to completing their LSx swap

I went to their site today and what do you know - they made a post to their site today stating that pricing is almost complete and that they were going to start adding products to their store this week. I find it odd that they have not posted any other information about the success of their install. Are these guys legit? Anyone planning to order this swap kit when it is listed?

Only company to ever consider for v8 swaps in Justin Sandberg. Everything else in junk, and I'm speaking from personal experience.

Thumbs down To make things clear...

This is from 9k's link:

Authorities returned most of the vehicles to their owners in Tallapoosa, Lee and Elmore counties, Bartlett said. They charged Lane Martin Culver, 35, of 171 McCutheon Loop Road and Lumis Martin Culver, 70, of 247 McCutheon Loop Road with first-degree receiving stolen property.

This is from the HinsonSuperCars website:

Hinson Motorsports
247 McCutcheon Loop Road
Laceys Spring, AL 35754

Thanks for posting, 9k... I will NOT be doing business with these dudes.

Yeah I have read some not so great things about them on the RX7 forum and others as well aside from their brush with the law. IIRC, even one guy went to check on his FD and his very expensive rims were off of it and on another customers car

Even while all this stuff has been going on they have been updating their website on the RX8 LS swap. Not that I'd want to leave my car with them anyway...

No Way...

IMO, I cant trust a place with such terrible business ethics to create a solid product. I wouldnt mind if they were just d-bags, but if theyre willing to skimp on things like PAYING FOR CARS, how can I trust them to build a proper swap kit?

I called them last week and supposedly the kits were in stock and ready but just awaiting price sheets, they got hit with the storm and are supposedly gonna have the pricing done this week.

If they don't have the parts available by the end of the week I am gonna make my own kit. I hate to re engineer the wheel, if they already spent the time and effort to do it. I would much rather buy there kit if its available but if its not out by Friday then I will just fab up my own stuff and make sure it's exactly how I want it.

not that we care about such things in a democratic society, but being charged is not proof of guilt, awareness going in is warranted though ...

This is what I was thinking... Everyone these days thinks if you get charged you're automatically guilty... Whatever happened to "Innocent until proven Guilty"? Obviously if these things have been happening and you need to go in there for some reason be aware...

"Innocent until proven Guilty" only applies with U.S. legal system. You are free to form any opinion you wish. Whether you have all the facts or not.

Let's call a spade a spade.

LACEY’S SPRING — A father and son face felony charges after authorities discovered stolen vehicles on their property.

Acting on a tip they received from another law enforcement agency in July, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and state Department of Agriculture investigators went to an area on McCutheon Loop Road. They seized stolen vehicles with a value of more than $100,000, said Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett.
“Some had been dismantled, and others had their vehicle identification numbers removed,” he said. “The suspects failed to provide any proof of ownership for the vehicles.

This all came from the same link that 9k posted earlier. Now, while I am not a judge, per se, this seems to be some pretty compelling evidence...

I want to see a good LS swap kit for the 8 as much as anyone, and if these guys can get their act together I may consider it in a few years, but I definitely wont be standing in line to give them my money. That's all I'm saying.

I don't care who does it, as long as it's done.

All I want is what's needed for the LSx swap for a reasonable price, and a harness that allows for working gauges that makes it more like a turnkey solution.

I'm not a cheap *** when I say "reasonable", and I don't expect this to be walk-in-the-park process. I just want to see it done right so I can make an informed decision on whether I want to tackle it.

There are certainly a lot of members that chose rotary related names that want boinger engines under their hood.

It'll get more interesting as more non-warrantee cars with blown engines show up on the market for cheap. LSx-8 for < $10k?

Touche! I love the RX-7s (especially) and the RX-8s but I feel that the real brilliance of both vehicles is in the handling department. Dont get me wrong, both of my RX's have rotary engines in them, I just dont necessarily feel committed to the motors - Well, I do in my 10th Anniversary... it seems sacriligious to swap that for a piston engine.

But there isnt enough that is special about my 8 to justify keeping it rotary powered. Currently, there is a Renesis in mine with 3 digit miles on it, so I'm in no hurry to swap it out - I just like to know that there are options.

Cheers!

Another update on the Hinson page - I suppose they don't have the steering worked out.
Minor detail, right? Steering? Who needs that when you have an LS1 powered RX8?

Update 6/3/11: RX8 dash is working! You can have a seamless installation with your stock dash. We're tackling the stock electric power steering (EPS) now.

Hi alz, it's my "original" login from when I had my RX8. I can't access the other one. I guess I traded a few thousand posts for a 2004 join date. Heh.

UPDATE FROM HINSON! (for those of us who are still playing along...)

Update 7/13/11: We're going to start on the sway bar & AC for the build over the next couple days. We excited to have the car "complete" and ready for aggressive testing soon.

Not only is Hinson developing the first LSx kit, they have also created a new system of measuring time. Example, "a couple of days" means weeks, "a few weeks" means months, and "as time allows" means... I have no idea. They do have an update.
RX8 Sway bar is complete. There a few loose ends to catch, but the car is ready for test driving. We are working on pricing this week. The S2K will come next as soon as this is done.
