New steering wheel. I went OTT.

Decided to upgrade my wheel. I bought a used one off ebay for $75 and had it redone in alcantara. Also had it thickened.

Don't ask it was expensive.

I should get it in a few days. I will post when it is installed.

I recently looked into this from a reputable company. It's about $500.00...............

It looks like they did a good job man, congrats. This is on my list. A new wheel is $900.00+.

But be careful guys, I have seen a few horror stories from upholstery shops. It is harder to do than it looks.

Looks great...

Please, before you install, take a picture of the whole back of the wheel, and the surface it mounts to. Thanks.

True story! I saw a wheel that got butchered by someone who "knew" how to do it. It was way too squishy, like grabbing a stress ball. And the stitches ripped out in a matter of months.

It probably didn't help that it was a hella-jdm civic with no power steering

That looks good, really good. That alcantara can get a different color overtime if the material is not of good quality. Hope it will be not the case with you.

^^ Me too.

I have not seen it yet as it was not done locally, but the shop seems straight up. I will post some pics when it is mounted.

i've looked into having this done and it's just too expensive.

I am going to try going the DIY way by practicing stitching first and then making a template of the leather on the wheel.

will keep posted

To the OP, Great job! That looks like very high quality. Was this done by Coby wheel?

AutoExe's wrap and thump pads were under $200 and if you have the patience to do it yourself it will turn out great,,,

Are you planning on wearing gloves when you drive the car? I have heard of people doing this as not to discolor the alcantara as quickly.

Gotta ask: How much? And who did it?

I just ordered an alcantera cover from RedLine Goods, and the fit was way off! Unfortunately, I'd already removed my leather cover, so now I'm left with a rubber steering wheel while these guys decide how to handle this problem. Not what I expected.

Thanks.

I did some upholstering back years ago and tried a steering wheel. It's not as easy as you would think. Takes some serious skill to do it right. Looks great Jeff!
