TWS Driver's Edge 6/7-8/08

This weekend I did The Driver's Edge driving school at TWS in College Station.
It was awesome and I did really well. I was, if not the fastest, very close to the fastest person in my run group, for the power my car had. The only cars that passed me were a white cobra, amg mercedes and a carrera s. But they only passed me on the long front straight and I caught back up to them by the time we got back around to the front straight again.

An amazing weekend. I recommend everyone try to do an event like this. Also the galaxy grey curse applies at the track... There were 2 rx-8s there... red and gray, and sadly the gray one died. The first day the gray rx-8 in my run group passed too late and tried to get back into the racing line... he entered a corner too hot and went off track into a tree. they had to cut the tree down to get the car out.

Here's a link to the pics from the track. I have videos of three sessions on Sunday but I have to find somewhere to host 600MB video files.

and now videos!!!

Am sad to hear another rx-8 might have bit the dust. Are there pictures anywhere of it?

The driving school is $295 for 8 sessions of about 25 minutes. That's a much better deal than autocross which is usually like $15 for 5-10 minutes total.

But then you also have to figure in the price of gas for it. I used about 3/4 of a tank per day. But it was worth it. And as long as you don't act like a fool I'm sure the gray 8's will survive.

so its $295 for the weekend then? thats not that bad of a deal then. I was thinking it was just a one day thing. So do they have different classes of groups when doing this? If I did it would be my first time so I don't think i need to be going up against "experts"

When you start out you begin in green. and usually stay in green the first event. then the next event you usually get moved up to blue. both of those groups you have an instructor next to you the whole time. then you get moved up to yellow and get solo approved. then you get moved up to red after a while.

It's a TI 8! not galaxy grey,

the car isn't actually that badly damaged, surprisingly for where it was when I first saw it. Granted this if from my own assesment. I will post more details later.

My brother and I took my dad to the track for his birthday, and there were a lot of factors that led up to the car going off track, but the stupidest part was that there was a ditch off track, which is where the problem came. Had the car spun in a 360 and not just slid, the car would have lost a lot of momentum and probably gone at a different angle.

Fortunately he and the instructor were ok, the guy who got the car out of the ditch did an amazing job to minimize creating any more damage. I have pictures from out there but I am going to wait on posting them for now.

I was trying to figure out on Sunday who it was that had crashed it, but nobody knew...that I talked to. I was sorry to hear about it though, good luck with the repais. They also had to cut a tree down right? That's what Rick said.

We had a paddock back near the exit of the track. near the Audi's. I wouldn't really say it was a tree, at least not what I could tell, it was more like some bushes. But there was chainsaw and there was a lot of limbs.

Pic of what it looked like before getting out:

I saw the car in that last paddock area early on saturday, but I went by after the crash but nobody was there. For some reason I've been calling the grey rx-8's galaxy grey... that's the color of my gf's car and I had to get some paint for it a while ago and it just somehow never got out of my brain.

^^ nothing. haha
only inside mods. Hardwired radar, and the mp3 play-silent CD mod.

I've been the route of having a loud car before and I really am not ready to have that annoyance back in my life, yet.

Springs would put me out of b-stock for auto-x, But I may be looking into sway bars soon enough.

By the way all videos but one are up and runnin'

My dad and I have been taking it apart because we are going to get it repaired ourselves rather than going through insurance. We are meant to get someone to take a look at it soon, I think my dad needs to call someone, not sure about that.

http://crast.us/users/wozer/rx8 is an index to the pics, we took out a lot more on saturday, I just forgot to take my camera. Ill update next time I am over there
