Anybody know of any good locations in the Dallas area for some "spirited" driving?

North of Denton, there are a couple of two-lanes that have a few curves to them. The fun is takin' a nice afternoon, and go explorin'.

There is also a road out Mineral Wells way, but that's all the way out in Mineral Wells.

Not sure where you are in dallas, but here are some good drives farther north.
Try Anna-Weston road in collin county. Take 75, and head west. (i think the road number is 423?
additionally, head farther north and take highway 902 West of 75.

Are you serious? The whole city of Dallas is like one big set of twisites. I was there the other day for the first time and I couldn't believe the clover leafs on steroids. The only downside is the traffic. If I was in Dallas I would be taking loops like no other.

Bubble - Like you said... the traffic. It's hard to take a ramp with enough speed to "feel" it when Mrs. SUV is doing 40 MPH in front of you. I'm looking for less populated twisties. I guess I could go for a drive at 2:00am.

Growing up in the Detroit area and later moving to Southern California I never had a problem finding great roads to have an adventute on - But I work in downtown Dallas and do most of my driving during the weekday commute back and forth from Flower Mound ...



A few years back (with the wife and then only one child) did a drive down to Austion and the Hill County around there - that was pretty good for hilly "s" turns ...

But hey, Sputnik, I know you use to live in this area - Is there one road that's better than any other if I made a trip out to Mineral Wells?

The road near Weatherford was pointed out to me by bike racers, but I was never able to go out and try it myself before I left, and I can't for the life of me find it on the map right now. If I were back there, I would go out to Weatherford, and take one of the two-lanes South towards Granbury, trying out the roads around the reservoirs to the North and East of Granbury. You might find one you like.

If you go to Ennis and follow some of the "BlueBonnet trails" to the East of that down, there are some tight twisty roads along that self-guided tour. The problem is that there are lot of homes in that area, so there's enough people and animals around there that going too fast around those corners is a little too risky. And the real curvy sections are rather short (they don't go on for miles). Besides, this time of year, alot of Bluebonnet seekers are parked and walking in all sorts of not-so-safe places (darn rubberneckers). But it is a nice change of pace from the otherwise flat and bland DFW metro area.

I tell ya, Denver itself is just as flat and boring as Dallas is. But several canyon roads are closer to Denver than Ennis is to Dallas. If anyone has the ability, check out the Rocky Mountain meet being planned in early June. It might be worth coming up here for a couple of days.

If the weather is good this easter weekend the family and I will be heading out that way. Our destination is Palestine/Rusk State Park and their restored steam locomotives. I hope there won't be to many Blue Bonnet pilgrams out and about ... and it won't be raining.

Just wish I had a RX-8 to drive!
