Question Texas personalized plates procedure

Going to dealer today to finalize everything and take ownership of my 8!! My question is, I would like personalized plates and my dealer is not quite sure of the process. Do I take care of this at the dealer or just take the standard plates that Texas will issue and then change it?? Anyone know if there is an extra charge, also?? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanx, Greg

Here is the page that shows all the types of personalized plates avalible.

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/vtr/spplates/allplates.htm

Here are the forms you need to print and fill out.

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/vtr/vtrreginfo.htm?pg=form2

Then you mail the forms to Austin (as specified on the form) then when the plates are approved you can pick them up at your local county tax assesors office.

Note: all instructions you need are on the forms you download. Also, I was able to ask the nice lady at the tax assesors office if the name I wanted had already been taken. (if they aren't too busy or lazy they should be able to help you out.) 2 Rotor is already taken. :D

I didn't look at any others. I assume the $40 application fee applies to all personalized plates and there are no additional fees for the Desert Storm plates?

The fees vary. Some have higher fees with a percentage going to a particular charity or organization.

Yes, indeed. I'm putting together my paperwork now. Those 12 years should at least lead to something

The $40 fee is only if you want to personalize the DS plates. No personalization and they're free (other than your yearly costs).

Nice to have met you, Pavehawk! Don't forget, there's a regular meeting on Weds at 7 at Rudy's!
