SCCA Solo2 event April 2, 2006 at Pennington Field

Autocross - this Sunday. Only cost you $30 to participate and it's a lot of fun. We need more RX8s out there to "represent." Last event there were only two RX8s - myself included.

Here is everything you need to know: http://www.autocross.com/texasregion/

Read about it, register online, pay the $30 (for non SCCA members) then show up and race! Any questions?

Who's in? BigO, will you be there?

As an additional enticement to get you out there - they usually have a professional photographer on site.. so as a bonus, you get some cool shots of you tearing up the track.

IT BETTER NOT RAIN!!!
Sundays Weather Report

I already have my track wheels/tires on, warmed up, and READY TO GO!!!

I feel like my interceptor unit is cursed. You wouldn't believe whats happend in order to get it to me. Last update was a boat ran into a bridge... preventing Mazsport from being able to deliver to the USPS at the airport. CRAZY!!!
The interceptor was sent today, by overnight express... so that it can arrive by saturday.
I'll install it saturday, and test it out that night. If all goes well... i'm definetely going to be there on Sunday.

I was checking on RX7club.com - and it looks like there will be about 3 FDs out there on Sunday as well.

I'll be there with my friend who has the black 350z, i'm sure we'll be easy to spot.

Sorry to hear that, Team. Maybe next time.

I agree - it had better not rain. It rained pretty hard last time. I was working a corner and just got drenched from the knees down (Pancho didn't go all the way and I only had on tennis shoes.) It was cold, I was miserable - then it started to lightening and they called the event half-way through the second heat.

I've learned my lesson - I'm getting a full rain suit - hooded jacket, pants, and over boots. I recommend it. I hear outdoor or sporting stores are good places to get those.

I really hope you have good luck with your interceptor-X. The whole FI / fuel management seems so finicky on these cars I'm almost afraid to even mess with it. If that box does all they say it does - you'll be tearing up the track without a hitch. But being that you have over 60 more HP than me, your best time had better be at least 0.5 seconds faster than me or you'll owe me a . Beat me by more than 1.0 second and I'll owe you one.

See you there.

The forecast for tommorow still say it may rain in the morning... RRR!!! The worst thing for me about rain at the events, is not getting a grip on the pedals. I usually keep my driving shoes in the car and flop around in sandals until its my turn to go out, but that doesnt always work.

Oh and the interceptor is here. I'm going to go install it now, and will report back later with the results.

Stuff a towel under your seat so you can dry your soles before the next run. I've got my rain suit in the trunk. They have them at Wal-Mart in the hunting/camping section. It's a very worth-while $28.

Hope it doesn't take too long to put the interceptor-X on and get it running right. Good luck on that. Hope it's tuned to perfection right out of the box and the harness works perfectly and all that good stuff.

By the way.. I shall be prepared with Corona in tow (see picture) - not that you'll be drinking it . The question is - will YOU be prepared?

Oh - remember to set your clock forward an hour tonight. I wouldn't want you to be late for class tomorrow.

I got good news, and i got bad news.

The good news is I got the intercptor installed today (kinda). The write up of how its running is in the mazsport vendor forum section...
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...42#post1307442

The bad news is... i didn't know i had to have the ECU cover to properly install the unit. Without it the ECU and Interceptor are just laying in the engine bay. This is ok for driving home from my friends place tonight... but there is no way SCCA will let me run like this.

Looks like im going to have to miss out on this one again. This really blows cuz i've been trying so hard to make it out. Taking off my race wheels/tires tommorow without even being able to run on them is going to be very depressing.

TMR - try to make it out to BJs this thursday for the meet, and i'll have your beer waiting.

Sorry to hear you won't make it out. That's too bad. Would have been fun.

I will try to make it out next Thursday - but you can save the beer until I've won it fairly.

It was nice - then it got hot. Temperature reached up to about 91 degrees and it was very sunny. I got a very bad sunburn. Outch.

I took a picture of my car after I put on my new magnetic numbers. Didn't get a chance to take pictures of much else.

Today has shown me just how badly I need good tires instead of these cheap generic street tires. You would have beaten me so badly today. I was sliding all over the place.

First few runs I was all over the place. Then I enforced good throttle control, held a better line, and shaved 2 seconds off my time - but I was still about 5 seconds slower than the other RX8s with good tires. The posability exists that I'm doing something very wrong, but I think it's far more likely that I'm just lacking good traction.

YES YES YES!!!!!!! Thats what i'm talking about.
2 Seconds at Pennington field is acually a lot of time since its such a short course. Better tires will help your time, but its good to see your advancement at this point.

And also... sunscreen is a must. Thats almost as important as a tire pressure gauge.

It looks like the next set of events for ER and PCA - are all going to be at Mineral Wells... BLAH!!! That place is the suck. I'll probably make the next PCA one just because im so itching to let the car loose, and i would rather do PCA since i'll get more runs in (7-8).
Looks like they have an Autocross on the 23rd. Hopefully i can fit my track wheels in the car so i don't have to drive on them to the location and kill a good amount of tread.

EDIT: Next SCCA Race will be at the TMS bus lot on May 7 - that will also be a must attend event.

Oh... one last thing. It looks like one of us is going to have to get a new number. At SCCA it may be ok since we're in different classes, but at PCA we're both in the OJ (other japanese) class.

- How's 18 sound to you?

Yep - one of us will need to pick a different number or add on - like you said. That is - IF we ever end up at the same PCA event. What are the odds? Guess we'll cross that bridge when the time comes if at all.

One of us could just turn the 8 sideways and run as number infinity.
