Oh geez Slim, another tow?!?!

Morales - I can relate with the car shopping. Boxrs and I drove out to 635/Jupiter from our place (which is about 5 min from Jenkins) to check out a 4Runner. We called that morning to make sure it was there before making the drive. When they said yes, we told them we’d be out there that afternoon to look at it.

We pull up and talk to someone who says that we need to deal with the person we talked to on the phone. So he (I think his name is William) comes up, we do the introductions, and we walk over to the vehicle. I get in and look around… Boxrs is checking it out too… it’s not exactly catching my eye but a thorough detail and wash could do the trick (considering the dealership did a CRAPPY job of it). We start talking to William and we’re like, “What’s the best you can do?” He tells us that the internet price is the lowest they can go (which is TOTAL BS). We’re like, “You can’t get any lower? At all?” He stands firm and says no without talking to the sales manager. We tell him that we’re looking to buy in one week (making it this weekend) or so and if we put a $100 deposit on the truck, could he hold it? He says no way, that it’ll be sold in the next few days and his manager would never go for that. Since we knew we weren’t going to buy that day and weren’t going to be pressured into anything, we say thank you and walked back to our car and drove away… while he stood there and watched. I kid you not, he called us 5 minutes later trying to get us to go back to the store. Boxrs basically told him that he wasn’t willing to negotiate so why should we go back? Williams said how could we negotiate if we weren’t there? Given that we’ve negotiated over the phone with just about every dealership, including one in Chicago, we chuckled and said no way. You’d think that considering we drove an hour to get there that we were pretty darn serious about making a purchase. He thought we were just kids and blew us off.

This was Reliable Chevrolet in Dallas.

Major oil leak (rear main seal), clutch vibration that is so bad it is setting off the knock sensor, and who knows what else. Still trying to remain calm, but it's getting impossible.

Wow Dazy... that is some BS!

Dazy- Not that you're necessarily interested in making the hike again, but I've got contacts at Courtesy Nissan if they've got anything used you're interested in.

I think our original salesman on the truck is now a fleet manager or something like that.
I've also got a buddy that's a fleet manager at one of the big Mercury dealers in dallas. I'll try to find out which one.

Dazy - I think they thought they could, because of my age, bully me into a sale too. I hate that. But I know someone who works at GM in Sherman. He does internet sales. In fact, He's a really good friend, and I'm sure he woldn't mind the long distant dealing. I'll see what he's got.

Chr!s - Yeah I hate those 16 bit vertex indices too. They're always getting in the way. lol

Slim - Burn it. You got insurance right? I think we're a pretty inteligent group...there's got to be a way to get away this...

Sounds great to me... anyone want to help? I would hope someone would steal it, but they probably wouldn't make it very far...

Almost reminds me of this kid back in high school... his parents were rich and he was spoiled (not saying that that applies here, just laying the foundation of the story)... he was tired of his mustang and wanted a jeep, but his parents wouldn't give him one while he still had the mustang... so he drove it into Lake Arlington, and got his jeep.

Maybe something along those lines would work...

While we're complaining about dealerships, I'll toss my experience on the list...

Dec. 31, 2005:
I'm going to buy a car today. Period. I had narrowed it down to either my 8, or a new mustang gt that I had spec'd out and priced earlier. I had already test driven the 8, but I hadn't driven the gt yet. So I go over to Westway Ford on 183 and this sales kid comes over to help me out. I tell him "I want to test drive a mustang GT with the premium package". His response, without batting an eye, "We only allow test drives on the GTs once the paperwork is being processed." Like hell I'm going to start signing paperwork on a vehicle that I've never driven.

So I left there, went over to my mazda dealership and bought my car. Little f'er. I've been meaning to go back there and point out to the sales manager that because his little pipsqueak of a sales kid wouldn't let me test drive a 30k car (mind you, i could test drive the f-250's (at 40k+) till i was blue in the face), I went somewhere else and spent my money that very same day.

One of my friends went through the same thing with a Cobalt SS. They wouldn't let him test drive it... just the Cobalt. He is now a proud owner of an 8 as well.

Slim you should slip the tow truck guy some "insurance money", and he could forget to strap your car down, and whoops! It falls off down the side of a mountain and into a lake!

Same thing with me.... I went over to Howdy Honda on south side of Austin and I wanted to test drive a honda s2000 and the tard told me that they don't allow people who aren't serious about buying it to test drive it. So I told him how can I be serious about buying a car if I haven't even ******* drove it moron? I get really sarcastic with people who **** me off , a character defect... so I asked to speak with his manager about how the salesman didn't respect my serious face. They asked me to leave. I went over to Mazda South who btw has the best customer service I have ever dealt with in my life. I test drove a 05' RX-8 (06's werent there yet) and loved it. They had a used 04' with like 49k miles.. I called the previous owner he lived in some po-dunk town and drove 150 miles to work everyday.... it ran great was immaculant inside... got it for $12.9k including my trade-in (00' F-150 4.2liter) and extended warranty. It is at almost 54k miles and have no problems with it except I think my beeping sound at redline has stopped working... I hit fuel cut in 3rd and I haven't heard it since... <shrug>

so **** salesmen who wont let you test-drive cars... yeah.

They just never seem to speak English. There's no telling what would happen.

Well, I'm still awaiting the verdict.

Sweet. One of my friends saw your car on some other website for Body Kits. I don't remember which one, but he said it was all over their site.

Well, got my car back today. It made it 1.8 miles before dying in the middle of the road. All the oil leaked out, and smoke was boiling out. She's back at the dealership again.

Do they even drive it before they call you to come pick it up? It's almost sounds like they randomly pick a part to replace, say it's fixed, and never check to see if it really works.

Man Brian, I'm sorry for you going through all this crap.

jesus, at this point I'd be raising such a fit. You should get a new 06 for free or something.

What dealership are you taking it to?
