Angry power fail @ 13k???????

barely turning 13000 miles and my CEL lit up, batt light, radiator light and then car dies!!!!!

Car is sputtery on start up, runs fine while on the gas but when i come to a stop it dies.

Take it to the stealership, and they notice my MS CAI, "how long have you had that? That is probably your problem" I call the bs card and tell him to fix it.

They call me back after 2 hours and say that it is misfiring, i will need new coils and that there is a carbon build up in the housing. And that when they get it back together they will need the OEM air box to make sure its not the MS CAI.

You're under warranty...

Let them try any combination they want - as long as they repair your car!

Just a FYI - Mazda Canada had a promotion in 2007 where they sold all RX-8's with the Mazdaspeed intake installed. Don't let them try to tell you it is the intake (even though IMHO the car behaves better with the stock intake - sans VFAD).

Good luck.

do not let them take off your CAI, just have them fix the build up and coils. You need to redline your car more.

That is funny that he tried to blame it on the Mazdaspeed cold air intake..........Anyway the coils, plugs and wires should be covered all the way up to about 34k? that is what mazda told me at least, I just had to replace my coils, plugs and wires and I have 68k on my car......sucks when you are out of warranty though because mazda tried to charge me close to $750 to repair my car.....I ended up doing it myself though for about $175.

Good luck man!

The MS CAI is sold by them so let them deal with it. Your symptoms are exactly like mine and it ended up being my coils, plugs, and wires (most of it was covered under my extened warranty). Don't listen to the rev it more bullshit. I redline my car several times a day and autox and the same **** happened to me.

P.S. You are now officially a true RX-8 owner.

Just this tuesday they had to replace my coolant reservoir, when i got her back i noticed that all my setting were reset (clock, radio, and mileage) so i assume the batt was disconnected.

And this just came out of nowhere, it drove fine wednesday and thursday.... and was driving fine friday morning. Left the hospital to run some errands at lunch, on my way back to my apartment I redlined it and that is when i noticed it wasnt acting right. I was in 2nd pulling about 6k and only doing about 20mph, shifted to 3rd and redlined it, when i backed off it shut off. coasted to the light and saw the christmas tree light up... all my lights were flashing. Killed the ignition, started it right back up and thats when it started stuttering and dieing..... after that limped it to the stealership.

The CAI has the Mazdaspeed Green Warranty
MAZDASPEED "Green" Performance Accessories must be specifically approved by Mazda for their particular application. These parts are warranted for the first 12-months/12,000 miles from the date of purchase, excluding labor.

If you have to get coils, plugs, and wires out of warranty get them from BHR. That way you shouldn't have to deal with this problem for a while.

and the Saga continues....

So the stealership called requesting the OEM airbox. That the MS CAI was causing an airflow restriction because the "screens" had fallen down . So I went up there to talk to the guy, he already had a bill ready for reinstalling the OEM intake $225.00. I asked the guy to explain how the CAI was causing the CEL, he said that the screens were restricting air flow and causing the MAF sensor to go off. I said well let me take it home and I will the place that installed the MS CAI reinstall the OEM box, since i dont want to pay twice to have it all back to OEM, and asked if that would clear the CEL. He then stated that it wouldnt because the MAF sensor was bad, ...... UGH!!!!!!!!!! Finally I told him to replace the MAF sensor and call it a day, leave the CAI installed and I will have a different dealership diagnos the problems after I fix the "fallen screens".

Oh yeah I thought this was funny too.... he tried to say that all the Mazdaspeed line products cause problems with the cars and that they are recommending to owners to remove all the MS products

I took it to NP... sean was on vacation so i had to deal with roger. This is my last time going to NP.

I have never had problems with sean but with the other 2 idiots nothing but problems.

Hey was saying the screens in the CAI fell.... the ones that are held in place at the rubber junctions.

I picked it up, same MAF and no CEL....hmmmmm the ticket said they only changed the coils and decarbed the engine.

I am just glad my car is back in my possesion with no warning lights. When i get some time i will take it to legend and them run a test on the MAF (the one that NP said showed restriction).

Interesting story about NP. I never really had any problems with them before I left SA. They do all have their moments though...
