Potentially moving to Norman, OK

Hey,

There is a decent possibility i could be moving to Norman in the next couple of months. I'm pretty confident i'm going to land a job that is going to require me to move but nothing is for sure until i get an offer.

I'll be out for a day or two in early September for my final interview but i really have no idea what to expect. I've lived in Washington my entire life (25 years) and i've seen a majority of the country but i've never even been close to Oklahoma I guess i'm just looking for a little insider information from the locals to get a better picture what it's like living in OK.

I know it's going to be a big change but it sounds like a nice place. Is there any tracks close besides Hallett? I saw a few in Texas too but they were a good three hour drive. How's the autocross scene? Any good events/clubs?

Norman, can't say too many nice things about that town. Pretty smug. OU is there so that makes sense haha

Two regions in Oklahoma. NEokla and the Oklahoma Region. The oklahoma region holds autocrosses in the city, usually smaller lots to use. Neokla usually runs in Stroud and sometimes in Tulsa. In Stroud we run on a huge parking lot that used to be an outlet mall that was torn down. Big events, great turnout, and amazing courses. Neokla is also a little bit cheaper than okla. Most of the time they try not to interfere with each other though... Look forward to meeting you.

The OKC metro area has about 1.3 million people. It's a pretty big place and it is a great place to live. They have a very enthusiastic city council who have done wonders with downtown. Great place for younger people to hang out. Clubs, theaters, ball park, and a pro b-ball team (that you should know about lol).

Nice. Good to know there are some RX8 folks in the area

So it looks like there is some autocross and a couple of tracks but i also enjoy a spirited down some twisty backroads. Am i completely out of luck on this one? I'm not sure why anyone would need to build a curvy road in OK. It's completely flat isn't it?

I'm not positive but i'm pretty sure i'd end up living in OKC. It seems really nice and much more happening than Norman. We'll see though. I've still gotta come check it out, get the job and move

Oklahoma is flat, but that's not the reason for the straight roads. When the landrun took place they devided the land up in quarter mile sections and it was cut up north-south, east-west. Hence the straight roads. There are not very many curvy roads here, mostly just eastern oklahoma. Might try around the lakes.

Edmond is 'smug'. Norman just has a ton of college students. I lived in both norman and NW OKC for a while and find norman to be a much better place.

Whats the job you're starting?

The jobs is with Risk Metrics Group. They have a small office (80-100 people I think) over by the National Weather Center on OU's campus. I'm excited, it should be a good move.

Yeah OU pretty much makes Norman. Gameday is always a huge and there are always prominent people coming to speak at the university if you're into that kind of thing. Not much in the way of twisty roads, but there are some hills out east. Campus is really beautiful.

I like Norman, and I guess it's big enough that I've never even seen W0rm around here...I would notice an 8 like yours haha. Do you live on the east side or something? Have you ever seen all of my family's rx7's and 8's on main street??
