TX its law to have it displayed at the front and back of the vehicle. Because of the wording its up to the court/officer's interpretation of the law. So putting your plate in the windshield does not count as the officer will say its not at the *very* front of the car. When you go to court for it the judge will side with the officer before they side with you.

FWIW, the dashboard is actually fine. I was told this by the tag office (the folks that give you the plates). I have one on the dash on my camaro since moving to TX....been pulled over 4 different times over the last 7 years in that car, and not once given a ticket for that (pulled over for different reasons).

Funny story about this subject...I have a friend that is a manager at a Goodyear dealership and owns a PT Cruiser. He too does not have a plate on the front (or dash for that matter). He got pulled over for not having a tag on the front, and he told the officer that this was discrimination. Corvettes don't have to have tags on the front, and if that's the case, he shouldn't either. The officer told him, that all vehicles have to have them. My friend told him what he does and where he works, and no, Corvettes actually don't have to have them. Just then he saw a vette, and he said, "See?" as he pointed at the corvette without the tag. LOL, he told him just to go on.

Now I personally don't know the law, but I've looked and every Corvette I've seen doesn't not have a front tag, so there might be something to that...

I'll be moving to San Antonio in November and I have the Mint-Blue Front end on the car. Needless to say, no plate will adorn the front of the car. Coming from Miami, we are not required to place a plate in the front.

How long can I keep the FL plates on and has anyone else placed the plate in the front windshield with any success?

I was pulled over three times in the past few years before my RX for having no plate in the front of the car. I had the plate in the windshield and asked every officer what the deal was. The one jerk that actually wrote the ticket I went to court to contest and spoke to a judge on it. They all basically replied the same thing.

Its ultimately the interpretation of the officer and judge. And the judge will ALWAYS side with the officer especially during those fuzzy grey conflicts.

That said, I HAVE looked up the law and it is as I stated above.

Now...because it is a "fuzzy" law everyone and thier grandma thinks they know it and so offer thier own interpretation. Also your right in saying its discrimination as all the sweet *** rides without them are simply not bothered. Me personally I have yet to get told anything about running around without my plate. I dont even put it in the windshield. I've been pulled over twice (for speeding) and let go with a warning twice. Never once brought up.

Now if your pimping a rice-mobile or lookin like a thug...you had better believe they will throw everything they got at you and pull you over just for looking like an idiot. Its not racial profiling...its auto-profiling...and its real and it works...

I have this problem when I venture out to West Austin But yes Twink you are right judges always side with the officers. When it comes to those shades of grey.

Ha...I live over between westlake and beecaves and I hardly ever see any cops much less ever get revved at...

I think thats because a majority of the people over here on the "westsiiiide" drive cars costing 30k+

Hell today at La Salsa I saw some teeny chicks pull up for thier HS lunch break in a freakin benz...paris hilton look-alikes...

I only have problems when going to east austin...every moron with a tint job is revving at me and the cops are out in force...

I try to stay over here where the only things I have to worry about is MILF's uber-SUV's and wonder if the chick I'm checking out is legal or not...

there are other places in west austin besides westlake

I get it everywhere I go, and got popped for not speeding on top of it. I was on my way to work one morning, guy in a darker coloered LExus is blew by, saw the cop, slammed on his brakes, cop got behind me and gave the ticket. So yes car-profiling is in FULL effect, has been since the 50's. I get people trying to race my 8 ALL the time, the yellow must flip a switch in other people's brains, or lack of (haha)

What? More than westlake?? No F'in way...I mean...why would you want to go anywhere else?? Heh..

I saw you on 360 last week...I was going north, you were going south...waved as you passed by...

The reason people are trying to race you all the time is probably because...bodykit, wheels, exhaust...

The reason cop pulled you over was probably for the same reasons...

Something about your car screams that your up to no good heh...

With the advent of the new computer scanning programs that recently hit the police cars, such as being able to automatically scan every license plate in view and get back immediate results on warrants, etc., one can expect that all states will soon be putting plates on the front of all vehicles.

been burned twice for not having my plate on my INGS frontend here down in Lake Jackson TX, but I hope they will change the law because I see so many new cars without the option that it makes me wonder is it the racey look of my car that provokes the unecessary pull over......I don't give a sh*t....its when I see the new cars tooling around without, and I have to compliy that chaps my ***....

Cool And the verdict is.......

Alright, so afta all the agony I've been through I finally went to court.

Ticket was dismissed and had to pay a $10 admin fee. Wait, did I mention that my Lola now has a freaking front license plate? Hate to say it but now she looks like she got 2 front teeth!!!!

I guess I'm gonna keep it where it is so that I don't continually get harassed by the Selma Police.

Good luck too all those who don't have one on!!!

Thanks for the comments and support everyone, I really appreciate it!

Its the Yellow and Red RX's that get picked on the most...

The silvers are the fastest and least visible....

My dad is a Fort worth cop, and he raised a pretty good point. Its all about money. Selling two licence plates instead of one happens to double the income for the state. And since licence plates dont cost much to produce, they must make alot of extra money off that extra front plate compared to states that dont. So some genius in austin decided that it should be law so the state can get money.

So if we dont have front licence plates to pay for, we wont be able to pay illegal immigrants to mow the grass next to the freeways you never drive on. Im kidding, but who knows what will be cut if we lose the front plate...

Oh, I don't doubt it at all. They were just bustin ***** as they usually do for every little thing. You know its a small, small town so.......

Funny thing is, the day before I was supposed to go to court I honestly must of counted at least 9 cars without their front license plate in the area. Just a few houses down from me there's an Altima without a front plate, damn it still burns me up!!!

It's true. Corvettes can also use radar detectors in states where radar detectors are banned. And Corvette drivers also don't have to carry liability insurance.

Either that or Corvette owners are just not any more interested in assing up the looks of their cars than any of us are.

Petition to eradicate Front License Plate

I found a site gaining signatures to petition the TX government to abolish the front license plate law. All they need is a name and email.
