OOps let the wife take the car...

I posted this in the body forums but I wanted to ask here also as you guys may have some better local ideas (Local body shops and or parts)

Ok guys I have a 2005 ti grey A/T all factory 8 that the wife took to work today cause her car was in the shop. Well the damage looks to be contained to only the front bumper. She aparently hit an India consulate in a parking lot.

Question 1: Any Idea what an OEM front bumper costs to have done at the dealer?

Question 2:Is the dealer the right thing to do or should I be looking for a bodyshop here in Houston.

Question 3: Should I scrap the factory replacement and go with a body kit.

P.S.
I couldnt get to mad at the wife as she bought me the car as a suprise Christmas gift. But damn I have had the car for 7 months and it only has 3k miles on it. Kinda sux to have a dented front bumper on a car I only drive on the weekends and keep garaged all week( I drive a company car as a daily beater).

a factory bumper should cost under $500. You can do it yourself. It is VERY EASY and there are "Do It Yourself " instructions on how to install it. They can be found in the DIY section of this board.

If you get a Genuine Mazdaspeed front bumper it will come painted and the installation is almost identical to the stock one. If you get any other bumper, you will probably have to get it put on and painted at a body shop.

Good Luck

BigOLundh is 100% correct. I have had the bumper off my 8 on twice since I bought it. It is a very, very simple process. Search the DIY threads. The sad thing is your dealer would charge you $200 (probably) in labor to out the new bumper on.

On a sidenote. Hopefully the crash foam under the bumber is ok. If not, this will need to be replaced also.

Good luck!!

Danny
P.S. Are you in the DFW area?

Thanks Guys for the comments and help.

No the wife did not seem to have other motives. She made the typical claim "I just didnt see him.". The consulate would not give her his information and did make a call to our insurance company but would not give any contact info to them either.

Allstate told them "Sorry sir we cannot make a payment without contact info" and that seems to be the end of it.

My deductable is 500.00 and the dealer estimate is 1300.00 bumper, paint, one fog light bracket and labor.

I dunno which way to go yet. Got to think on this one a bit. M/S or OEM hmmm.

The real MazdaSpeed front is only $1200 plus shipping. And like $60 for the fog light brackets. As mentioned earlier, it comes pre-painted and will line up perfectly to the factory mounts.

In other words, buy the MS one and put it on yourself (use the DIY for help).

$1300 ESITMATE?

I need to find me some consulates. With that much from the insurance company (minus deductable), i would be all over the MS bumper.

Ok so this is what it would look like i guess.

I quickly photoshopped this so excuse the not so perfect result but I wanted to see just the mazda spped bumper on an otherwise stock 8. Still say do it ?

I suggest getting
A - Just MS Bumper
B - MS Bumper and Replica MS Sides/Rear
or
C - Full MS Kit
