this indash is probably using either a + or - trigger from the parking brake circuit (like makes the dash indicator for the brake light up). You would have to find where it is wired in and use a test light or volt meter to verify... model number would help. Nothing on the paperwork from the dealer?

Pulling the parking brake to 1 click is a no go. It doesn't feel different to be honest but my instantaneous mpg reading dropped by 40% or so lol. Not to mention there are about 3 things that light up and tell me to release the parking brake

ALright guys my 8 is showing some symptoms that are starting to scare me. Getting what seems to be a loss of power and long cranks when I've been running it for 30 minutes or more. Ive gutted the CAT. changed out all the ignition stuff yesterday. All the coils had the burn marks through the bottom and the plugs were pretty covered in carbon (this I expected). I am hearing a light rattle coming from the cat again so I'm guessing a hanger is rattling or maybe I didn't get all the crud from the CAT but I don't think theres any way it could be big enough to clog it up. Also dogged it last night and checked underneath to see if the Cat was red and it wasn't. I guess my next step is a compression test but obviously mazda is closed today. Any other things y'all would have me check off the top of your head. Just got this car, praying its not engine rebuild time :-(((

You should thank Corn good sir! He is the one who found it.
other aftermarket DVD/NAV units have a ground that connects to the e brake, so simply grounding this lead instead of connecting to the e brake switch overrides the screen lockout...
seems so for now...I did come across something on some older units for mazda3s that there was a "Diagnostic Boot" for the unit to access some of these features to disable them but found nothing so far on this one... retail on the one you have is around $1500...
