I'm gonna end up driving it back home because it's going to be cheaper than shipping it and then flying back home, hopefully no engine problems on the way back

Awesome man! Can't wait to check it out.

this weekend I am picking up a 2010 S2 tranny with 5k miles

need some feedback on the direction to take while I do my engine rebuild. Part of me wants to save the $$ and bypass the flywheel….but part of me doesn’t… clutch is pretty much a must do just not sure if I should go exedy racing or exedy replacement?

Option 1: 12lb lightened flywheel and exedy clutch (clutch is on sale)

Option 2: Stock with both

Option 3: Stock Flywheel and Exedy clutch (clutch is only $30 more than stock Exedy replacement)

I assume the throw out bearing is different for a S2 tranny (RB.com has a 09-11 specific bearing but it doesn’t give me an option to swap it on the exedy kit)?

Just talk to Charles at BHR. He will make sure you get what you need.

The S2 trans requires a S2 throwout bearing and not the S1 bearing that comes with most clutch kits. Do not get your bearing from the dealer. I picked one up there new and it was over sixty bucks with my military id. After picking up that bad boy I was looking at my S2 tranny only to find there was one still attached. You can have my used throwout bearing from my S2 transmission if you pick it up from Scott.

Also the electronic plugs on the transmission will no longer match but they can simply be cut and spliced together. I also have a Transmission hoist at Scott's place I'm sure he would let you barrow. You may also need an alignment tool.

LOL wanna do mine at the same time :P I wish I was home to give you a hand we could do two at once.

If you are staying NA then consider a lightweight flywheel but for FI I have found that some think a lighter flywheel is a hindrance and that the extra weight of the stock flywheel is preferred.

I always wanted a lightened flywheel because I have heard it was the best mod for the RX-8, but that is NA. But like everything else, you will get a million conflicting opinions

That's kind of how I felt, flywheel was worth it but only if you didn't go "too" extreme. I was thinking 12lb vs 9lb since there is some value in that inertia.

In my head FI is on the list but I am not sure I will make that investment for a while (not to say I would pass up a deal)....... maybe next rebuild.

Meah, I went super light... lol. Its gonna make tuning a bit more difficult. Mainly the idle. I bet I wont be able to get my idle below 1100 rpms.

From what I have been told it's a drivability issue, it makes the throttle very touchy.

I didn't notice **** bit of difference with the ACT pro-lite, hasn't affected drivability either.

But I already stated my opinion to Houston over PM.

I will await your opinion once turboed. I am curious how this stock clutch will stand up to forced induction.

that's what really makes me question the "$500" investment. If there isn't really a return on lightened flywheel I have a whole slew of other things to spend that money on but I don't want to half-*** my project.

I think I am going pass on the flywheel for now, just do a new clutch with the tranny. Should I get the existing flywheel resurfaced?

why the hell have I been up since 5am on a Friday....ugh

I have the ACT HD stage one should hold to 400 whp ish. The flywheel with cw was like 12 pounds stock is 16.7. IMO anyone who says OMG ITS SO AWESOME, need their butt dyno re-calibrated 4 lbs shouldn't really feel like much.

I noticed it in my Z which had a 28lb stock wheel the lightweight one was 15 (i think).

but yea 4 lbs rotational sure its going to help but its not like 90s sports cars with huge heavy flywheels.

Yes def get your flywheel resurfaced, you can resurface mine if you want and slap it right on, so you don't have any down time.

Houston and 9K y'all should drive my car and see if you notice a difference. Maybe there is a difference that I didn't notice!

Yeah butt dynos are weird. What always gets me is just how different 8's feel. I have driven quite a few and they all feel different from mine is different ways. Grungepups feels really nice with the Koni's, that is what made me want them.

let me get my alignment done first hahaha. I need those freaking endlinks as well, I can't spend anymore money right now though. I forget what bills are due and aren't due I haven't been home for 3 freaking weeks!
