I am confused. Why would anyone buy Racing Beat products from Race Roots when you can buy them directly from Racing Beat?

Did you compare the prices? Maybe RB charges more if you buy from them to encourage people to buy from the reseller. The trade off is usually the other companies have to adhere to MAP and can not offer publicly advertised sales on their products.

Not sure about everything (RR site not updated) but the gauge pod for instance is $5.00 more at RR. Shipping is free so it probably works out a little cheaper but not enough to make a difference to me personally and Racing beat is so well known for customer service, I just can't see taking the risk since the term "in stock" seems to mean different things to different vendors.

If RR is charging more the RB then that is not what I was talking about.

Racing beat gives discounts to Military, Hell they gave me a discount just for being deployed with the military.

^They are a great company. For many reasons and just because of the discounts.

I did buy a used Greddy Oil Filter reloc kit and he sent it right away. First time I have done business with him. Since it was a used product in hand I took the chance.

Yeah, I think he sort of learned his lesson but you never know. I'm all for forgiveness but I still wouldn't buy anything from him. But a deal is a deal, so I wouldn't fault anyone from buying from RR if there was something they needed.

To be honest I never thought I would and not sure why I decided to give him a try. He has burned a lot of people and his history on 8club is tainted. But he did deliver what he advertised quickly so I can not fault him on this transaction.

Free Accessport (Sortof)

So a dude on CL posted an AP for sale for the RX-8. I call the dude and he knows nothing about it. He did call Cobb and gave them the serial # to verify it is for the RX-8 MT. I explained to him that it might still be married to the last car. He was asking $150 for it. I meet up with him and hook it to my 8 and sure enough it is still married. He then says "well I have no use for it then just take it" (Woo Hoo). So I download and run AP manager and it does show as "Installed" Next I call Cobb to ask how much to reset it? $300 to relicense (reset) and if I go to their HQ in Austin they can do it while I wait (Takes about 30 mins)...

So next month I will be taking a little trip to Cobb in Austin... 9k said to let him know when I go... so any others are welcome to tag along when I go next month. Should be ordering my Brakes from Rotorpros this week for my Bday...

So did they quit making them for our cars? The whole cobb thing confuses me a bit, some say it works out of the box with autos, some say it won't etc. I wouldn't mind grabbing one if it would benefit my little 4 speed any

I'd be down for meeting you guys somewhere if that's cool, my car is almost done and things are going well, should have it all ready to go by tonight with any luck, and hopefully this will be the last of repairs/tweaking for a while

The latest version (firmware updates are free) are compatible, it does not matter if you have an auto or manual. Your tune needs to be for an auto but all the other functions work the same for the most part.

The Cobb is a great little tool if you take the time to learn it. But it is daunting, it is a very powerful tool. I have read a couple of books on tuning and played around a bit but a professional will do my initial tune once I am boosted.

I can omit CEL's, change oil injection rates, turn the cooling fans on earlier, etc. though.

I wonder if that thing could squash my airbag light, I've tried everything just short of a trip to the dealer, absolutely f-ing irritating.

I have a mechanical question, my car shakes a lot at idle, the engine isn't loping, I had a buddy of mine watch it while I pushed the gas with the brake down and it didn't move much (nothing out of the ordinary anyway) so I don't think it's loose or broken mounts, would a loose tranny cause this? I heard different things about intakes too, could my aem be the culprit? Just wondering if anyone has any experience before I start searching the forum/googling until I'm blue in the face
If there's something I could check or change or something that'd be great, maybe my mounts are too stiff?

It won't mask anything safety related (tire monitor codes, air bags, TCS, etc.)

That could be many things, I would start looking for vacuum leaks first, clean the MAF, etc. Checking the motor mounts is pretty easy with a pry bar.

But a lot of 8's have that little shimmy at idle I have noticed, even relatively new ones. Just spray some carb cleaner around all the vacuum points while it is idling and see if the idle stumbles. If it does then you have a vaccum leak. Checl the two service nipples on the lower intake manifold. Hoss-05's car was having a similar issue and it was missing one of those. Although every once in a while his car still stumbles at idle but nothing like before.

Most engine mounts on 04-05s go out around 50k miles. There has but an updated engine mount with new part #s. Both Scotts 04 and my 05 engine mounts are bad at the moment.

hmmm, interesting, I've had my engine replaced a few times so maybe in the midst of all that mine got jacked up, from what I can tell they seem to be ok, but I'll take a second look. I've also had the trans replaced once, I guess I'll check the small stuff first and go from there, it's not a show stopper or keeping the car from being drivable, it's just really really really annoying to have so much vibration at idle or stopped at a light etc. considering how smooth everything is when the car is moving etc...ugh. I wonder if there's any way to look up the tsb's done on a car by vin as in having the car almost 8 years now and having so much done over the years I can't remember if I ever had mounts replaced or not, maybe that's been discussed before so sorry for the echo if it has lol
