My first speeding ticket

Well, it was bound to happen. I drive aggressive sometimes I guess... more so that I feel very comfortable traveling at higher speeds in the RX-8. I think it has something to do with the fact that the car handles like a dream and can get up to speed quickly. Anyway, it was late.. if your from Austin it was right around the south mopac area.
There werent any cars around so I gunned it up to about 135 or so for a nice straight away... I slowed back down to about 10 over and about 2 minutes later this cop is FLYING to catch up to me... pulls me over. He asked if I knew why he pulled me over (dumb question) I told him Yes, Sir... I was speeding. He asked me how fast he thought I was going (this is the funny part). "Well, I hit about 135 a couple miles back" He told me I was lucky because he only clocked me at 103. He then lowered the ticket down to 93 (nice guy, really). Anyway, so I got popped with a 93 in a 65, lucky to not go to jail I guess. But still, a hefty ticket... gonna have to wait until after the holiday season to pay that one off

Not only are you lucky to have the ticket reduced, youre lucky not to be in jail right now. Doing anything over tripple digits for more than a few seconds (to pass a car for instance) is wreckless and dangerous driving if you ask me.
Forreal though man, hasn't anyone ever told you youre 'innocent untill proven guilty'? If you keep your mouth shut at least you can fight the ticket, but you admitted outright to going fast enough to have your car empounded... not smart.
You should consider whatever cost this ticket has on your wallet to be a blessing, and I hope you learned to keep your lead foot on the track.

while I don't think that admitting to doing 135 might have been the best thing to do with most cops, I think this one might have appreciated your honesty. By being honest and not denying all wrong doing / being a *****, it seems as though you passed the officer's 'attitude test' and hence he showed mercy.

Do you know how much the ticket is going to be?

why pay it? take defensive driving, you can do it online at your own pace for a fraction of the cost of the ticket. (if that's an option)

I don't think you can take defensive driving if your over 20 mph of the speed limit. I am not for sure but I will have to take a look.

This is the first speeding ticket in my RX-8, but only my 3rd ticket in my life.

Unfortunatly plenty of experience here and the cutoff for DD is usually 25 MPH over.

You might be able to get Deferred Ajudication, you pay essentially the full amount plus court cost but agree to a type of probation, 6 mos or so, if you get no more tickets the violation doesn't go on your record. Deferred usually has a higher speed for disqualification (30 MPH over)

I got pulled over today for exiting the freeway into my hotel at a high rate of speed and then (thanks to my mazdaspeed suspension) took the corner at damn near 45+

Cop busts a U and comes up behind me, RIGHT as i put my blinker on to turn into the hotel (going to get some lunch) i pull over in the parking lot, roll my windows down, take off my sunglasses, (my radar detector wasnt out thank god)

Anyways even with the speeding and (i found out) my proof of insuance was expired by a month. He let me go!!! One thing I think made a big difference when he asked if I was in a hurry for a reason, was my reply that I don't have a good excuse and I was speeding and all I can say is im sorry. I think showing them respect gets you respect.

He liked my car though - kept asking questions about it and stuff, made me feel good.

Defensive drive is only allowed if you were going 24 and under.

Deferred Ajudication is allowed for 30 and under. Anything over that and I would highly suggest a attorney.

right right, forgot about all the limits etc., thankfully none of my temper tantrums have ever occurred near a policeman or I'd probably be more knowledgeable on the subject
