My wife and I will be moving to Florida in about a month and are thinking about Tallahassee. Does anyone here live there or know anything about the area? We will be traveling next week to start looking for a place but I would love to get some information from someone who actually lives there.

What part of Louisiana you from?

The weather is about the same.. between those two areas..

Why Talahassee? why not further south.. just wondering what you're looking for.

 

Move to S. Florida. Closer to the Keys/Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. Temps are warmer and there is more to do. Broward or West Palm Beach Counties.

 

Generally speaking, Tallahassee is not my favorite town--I lived there for almost ten years. I bought a new 1990 Miata from Mazda of Tallahassee, and they were a decent dealership even though there was no competition. Tallahassee has or had a great SCCA chapter with monthly autocross. They used to meet at the old airport, but I have no idea what they're doing now. My advice is to cultivate a friendship with someone who owns a house on Dog Island and spend as much time as you can there. One more thing--a restaurant called B. Merrill's has the best chicken wings I have ever tasted. It's across Apalachee Parkway from Governor's Square mall.

 

I grew up in Orlando. Why are you going to Tallahassee?? cough*one horse town *cough... Keep going south...Orlando, Tampa, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, Miami...

 

Thanks for the advice guys. Sorry I haven't written back in response but I just got in today andhave news. We decided to go to Destin and have started the long, drawn-out process of buying a home. It is near the Choctawhatchee Bay and is only a mile from the gulf. Thanks for the advice as we may decide to move again in about ten years and are looking at a more southern location. By the way, we are currently located in Hammond Louisiana 321, sorry for the delay.
