Looking for a drive around Austin

It's been a while since I've taken the 8 out and I was wondering if anyone knew of some good back road drives around Austin.

I just moved here (3 weeks ago or so) and the one road I have found decent for some fun is Lime Creek... Perhaps some of the "local" know of more roads...

Wanna go for a drive? I am always willing to do this...

If you guys are gonna schedule a drive, let me know even though I live in killeen I wouldn't mind driving up there for a good drive. Haven't been on one for a while.

Cool...

Also early weekdays work for me...just need to "relax" before going into work. If anybody is up to it we can do a Lime Creek drive one of these days. PM me. Usually early in the morning there is nobody there.... ~ 8:00 - 8:30 am....

Carlos
ps. Anybody has a place that you recommend to get tires? Mine are almost gone and need replacements soon...

These are what I have on mine and they are running GREAT!!! Really look good on the car also. The site also has pretty cheap prices so they are worth the look. Right now I am free most days but I don't know where Lime Creek is but I am up for anything.

Buy a set of these maps and you'll be set: http://lonestarloops.com/maps.htm

Example: Luckenbach Loop

OR just hook up with the Austin Club a couple of times a month.

How about this Friday morning? I have about 2-3 hours to spare and I am sure my car needs some "FUN" after the recall. (bad bad experience with the dealer BTW)

PM me if you want to make it. I could meet you guys around 8:30 am on Friday at the Texaco Gas Station located at the corner of FM620 and 2222. We can then drive to Lime Creek.

BTW, this will be my first time driving there as well with the RX8 (I did it with a SUV so it was not that interesting) but I am sure it'll be fun.

Hey Carlos, which dealer did you use & have a bad experience?

Lime Creek is a good one, but be careful. Lately both Travis County and (strangely) the dang park ranger have been running radar on it. Travis had a motorcycle out there the other day with laser just after sunrise. It's also usually covered with cyclists on the weekends.

If you have the time, head out toward Fredericksburg. Pick any side road on the map and you won't be dissapointed. And, when you get there you can have a beer in the BierGartens. Be careful on Hwy 71 - lot's of cops; mostly during summer trying to catch DUI off the lakes.

Chris,
Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll be bringing my radar detector. It's legal here in TX right?

The dealer I went to was R.B. and even though the service guy was corteous and nice, the service itself SUCKED. Not even a sticker of the recall on my hood... not even I was told "BTW you car will consume more oil now"... I wasn't even told what rev the new flash was and when I asked for the test results,... they just said "it passed"...with no proof so I demanded the car to be tested again and to show me the test results....

Anyways, I might create a new thread with this experience.

Yes. The one off Burnet Rd. I mean they provided the data results the second time but my confidence in them had already been lost. They didn't even let me talk to the mechanic that worked on my car... and when I asked about the version of the flash they were clueless about what it was....

Anyways, perhaps it was a "bad" day for them.

I'd recommend a trip to premier or beasley south next time, there's no reason to put up with any of that, and when you do take it to another place make sure they know why you chose to go there instead of the other place, most of these places will put forth a little extra effort if they know you've been burned by other places etc. Allan is the guy I worked with South, he took care of me big time, my car is running like new when before, it was running like wrecked.

We need to organize this drive a little better fellas. We need a date, time, and who's attending? I think it will be better on the weekends because usually people have to work on the weekdays. I also work every other weekend, (uncle sams rules) so I am working this weekend. But next weekend would be great.

AGREE 100% that this should be organized a bit better. I just had time this week and I can't wait to go for a drive...(I used to this all the time back in CA through HW1 or 156 )

Anyways, I could do on weekends but need to be early. wife and kids will kill if I stay all day.... lol

Look forward to meeting y'all...

Update...

I just got back to work.. What can I say... I have been doing "Canyon driving" for more than 10 years and today was the "closest" to almost get a ticket... lol lol

Oh well Kalidor's8 and I went for a drive this morning through Lime Creek and it was awesome... just too bad there were daammmmnnn too many cars on the road.... I will wait and wait until they dissapear and then go for it...

It was fun but with 2 cops on the road I had to back waaaaay off.. Oh well nevertheless it was great to meet a fellow RX8 owner and "play" a bit....

Looking forward to meeting some of the members on 10/04

Carlos
