no...but a lot of people don't have theirs on...it only becomes an issue if the cop feels like it

All you really have to do is put the front license plate in your glove box....then if you get pulled over by a cop pull it out and put it into view on the dash really quickly before you stop....if he asks just say your frame broke and your getting a new one

Lol, put it into view before you stop? Don't you think the cop's already noticed?

It is illegal to not have your front plate on in Texas. As AForce8 said, the majority of the time cops don't care. It gives them a reason to pull you over and could add to your tickets if you're a jerk to the cop. I've been pulled over once for it and got a warning, but the only reason I was pulled over was b/c the cop owns an 8 too and he was jealous.

On my previous car i put it in the door bin, and would whip it out (yes i said that) before the come came up to the window.

Everytime the police officer noted that it had to be on the bumper, and not in the window... but not once did i get a ticket for it.

With the 8 i have just gotten super lazy. My front plate is not anyhwere in the car... actually... i dont even know where it is.

Oh, and to answer your original question.. yes it is illegal.

better yet, take the LP frame, intentionally break one of the grill mounting tabs off, mount the plate to it, then just show that to them put some muddy dirt stains on it for extra effect even ...

just pray the same officer doesn't pull you over again 6 months later ...

What real use is the front plate to cops anyway? Never understood why some states say it's mandatory while other eliminate it all together. Thank god it's not required here in Florida!

I got a ticket for not having a front license plate once in my vette. That's the only reason the cop pulled me over, so I figured I was mostly guilty of "driving flashy car." Still, I don't have a front plate on any of my nicer cars. It's worth paying the $90 "tax" every once in a while to keep my car nice.

I don't think this sort of ticket will affect your insurance, but you'd have to check on that.

Putting it on your dash or other places isn't technically legal either.

I tried no front plate for about three months, and got pulled over three times in the same month just because of the missing plate. Although I havent gotten ticketed because of it, the last warning could have been a lot worse due to "circumstances" and I felt that I would never know when I might get pulled over again, and in what condition I would be, so best to just be safe.......
So alas, my car is buck-toothed again.

one main reason that the police have refused to allow people to take off thier front plates is because there have been many robers of convinent stores caught simpy because the idiot pulled right up to the front door to where the security camera could read thier front plates.

I never heard this one, but maybe.
I thought it had more to do with radar guns.

what really pisses me off is the amount of other sporty cars I've seen that have no plates . Am I wrong to think that if I changed my front end to Ings It may seem too aftermarket and cause undo attention. It sucks....
