canary - i just looked at the map to find some of those roads. they're all south of 290, which i guess is fine, it just might have to wait for another trip since it's kinda out of the way. BUT, what about them is fun? from the map, they look very straight ... ? are there lots of hills? cliffs? is it just curvy-er than it looks online?

also, what roads make up devil's backbone? i'll try to look at that word doc to find out...

32 makes up Devil's Backbone, and those roads are anything but straight lol Cliffs and such not so much unless you take the route we did back in November to Leakey, but there are plenty of turns and low water crossings mixed with long straights here and there. I got popped on 32 however so I'd watch it there if you go that way, the curvy section not so much, but there was a DPs (office "bacon" no less) perched on top of one of the hills and he caught me off guard :P

cool, thanks for the added info. i hate when they snag you off guard! well, i'll probably just print out all your info and take it with us. we're following there, so we'll see what we're up for on the way back sunday.

fyi - when i say cliff, i'm picturing 2222 btwn mopac and 360, not some crazy mountain cliff. anyway, i see there's a lake down there, but overall i guess it's more rolling, windy hills. if it's anything like spicewood springs (west of 360), i'd love it. that's more of a caved in kinda feel though i guess...

do you have a list of your specs anywhere? wheels, wheel size, drop, etc? i'm *hoping* your setup is tein s (or similar height drop) plus 19" wheels. the way your wheels fit the wells is perfect. i have tein s and want to get 19s, that's why i say that. ms kit w/ no spoiler is the way to go too. damn, enough gawking...sweet car though.

thanks!
yes those are 19's, staggered Work S1 Meisters 3 piece, 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 on the S-Tech's, I'm on rubberbands disguised as Toyo's too, Lazi sold me those last year and at the time it was a package deal and he was going for the stretched look. The kit is the real deal (authentic Mazdaspeed) as well, fixing to re-do the front grill mesh, and we're also preparing the car for the 08 show season where it will be displayed at several regional shows in the Soundstream booth, I'm not going to spill too much on the interior, folks will just have to wait and see on that heh

I'm looking for someone to shoot it when it's all done, if you do photography and feel like doing some of my car that would rock, I'm building a website for it too so I can maybe try and solicit sponsorship for it.

sweet -- those tires are pretty slim!!

thanks for the idea. i'd love to take some pictures of it, but i don't have the equipment to really do it justice right now. i do a lot of back-end image editing, and i've seen a lot of the guys on this forum that take good 'car' shots, it seems like it's own art, totally different (more skillful) that landscapes, at least wth regard to moving shots anyway, maybe one time in the near future when we all hook up i'll just take some shots for my own viewing pleasure and see if any come out. coolio?

now, off to my drive to f-burg!! i think i decided to detour from 290 on the way home sunday - taking rr12 south, to 150, to 1826, back to 290 -- just a short little detour to see what it's like down there...

i figured -- thanks for paying attention to it.

we took the short detour. it was fun, but we definitely need to go back and follow that whole route for more scenery though.

pictures

just a couple pics - no good scenery ones, but i thought i'd post them anyway.

one of the 8 on the way out of town (all that talk of the new one coming out, and i still love this body style!!)

one of some sweet hot rod that passed me on 290. i managed to get a quick snapshot off while driving! please look past the 07/07 sticker

and one of a poor butterfly that wishes our cars were a bit more aerodynamic

That rod and several of its buddies hang out at the "y" in oak hill on saturday nights, haven't been out there in a while but supposedly it's a nice little get together, just lots of older cars/rods and not much of anything else

ok i finally have internet, whens the next meet? PS i still have jersey plates so if anyone see a white 8 around from out of state its probably me. I am amazed at the z to 8 ratio here. Back in the NE theres a good 20z's for every 8 on the road but it seems the opposite down here.

there's a drive that might be cancelled on the 26th as I'm not sure if anyone can lead it and most of us will be out of town it seems on that weekend lol

there's the first Wednesday meets every first Wednesday of the month at the FuddRucker's off 35 near St. Johns behind Chili's/Pappasito's. That's it as far as club events, we post them every month on www.texasrxs.org

for the non-club related-

There's lots of unofficial meets and such too, depending on where you live, i think the North folks gather up at Round Rock every Saturday night, South people tend to hang out at the Y in oak hill on Saturday's, then you also have the impromptu gatherings of folks on here as well, and I'm sure there's other places around town but I'm not in the loop so much anymore.
I'm still down for scoring some food somewhere with a bunch of other owners if anyone's up for it, just need a time and place and I'm all set

Heh...2222 is fun, but beware, enforcement on that stretch has gone up recently...a buddy got a ticket recently going thru there in a "spirited" fashion...

Austin is full of laid back people...it reflects in their driving...it does however have its benefits...people actually use the turn signal and allow others to change lanes...heh

pffffft are you shitting me? try driving north in the mornings on 35 or slo-pac, you'll see just how inconsiderate and selfish the drivers around here can be, or just how fippin' stupid anyway, I swear those 2 roads must bring out the *** in everyone or something. Every once in a blue moon I get behind someone who sees me coming and gets over, or someone who will actually let meover etc., but it's more the exception and not the rule, but it probably also depends on where you're driving as maybe some parts of town are nicer than others?
Parmer and 35 isn't far from my work actually, I hit up the Target and Toy's r Us down there from time to time lol
2222 is a hoot but it is a bust sometimes and short, if you take it from slopac to 360, take a right on 360 and also check out Old Spicewood road, it's a fun little road abotu 2 miles up from 360 on the left, comes out on spicewood which turns into Mcneil which you could take back to Parmer etc.

yes!!

snowrydr: make sure you tale OLD spicewood rd, which is WEST of 360 (a "left" like canary said, but just in case you were headed south, in which case you would turn right ) i just point that out b/c the spicewood springs/old spicewood kind of dog-legs through 360, and on the east is boring, but west of 360 is awesome. be careful though, a lot of creek turns with no guard rails!

Heh...its prolly where I roam more than likely...I live off of 2244 west of 360...

There are so many back roads with crazy elevation changes its become one of my favorite games...finding and pwning teh remote forgotten twisties...

I only work like 15 miles from home too, and I try never to leave my house until 9ish...so traffic is cleared and I can have a nice morning 2244 pwning...
