Houston Club scenic drive - Saturday, July 31st
When: 10 AM near the Woodlands (final meeting spot TBA)
What: 150+ mile run though the East Texas woods and rolling hillsides surrounding them. There is a possibility the die hard guys want to keep going, my associate route master is working on the details for an additional 50-75 miles of drive time for you.
Details: The club will meet in the Woodland's for our summer scenic drive.
Our tour this time out will take us over the hills and through the woods on our way to eat some of the best biker bar hamburger's this side of Luckenbach!
We will be drivingthe infamous Anderson Loop renown in several Texas magazines as the best road in Texas East of Interstate 35!
Remember: This is not a RACE, this is a drive. Accetable standards of behavior will be printed with the maps. Remember don't do anything I wouldn't do.
Safety first!

The caravan will meet near The Woodland's Mall in the parking lot of the Portofino Shopping Center.
The Portofino Shopping Center is located on the Northbound side of I-45. Exit the Tamina/Research Forest exit.
Look for the Michael's Arts and Crafts Store (19075 I-45 North @ Research Forest Shenandoah, TX 77385)
You shouldn't miss the RX-7(s) and RX-8(s) and other cars gathered together in the parking lot. Someone is bound to have their hood up, so keep an eye out for them!
Here is a checklist of the things to bring:
2 Way radios - these can be helpful since cell phones will not work for more than 50% of the drive.
Gas - Make sure to get a full tank of gas the night before so your not late, we will not wait for you. (Unless you call! 281-989-1738)
Camera - If you have a co-pilot make sure you put a camera in their hands to take pics of the drive.
Sunglasses - The early part of the trip we will be heading West mostly with the sun at our back, however shades will come in handy and you might look cool too!
Cash - The scheduled stops all take plastic, however you never know what could happen on the open road.
Insurance papers - Just in case

Dr. I have a question about the drive. SInce I am unfamiliar with the route and since my car is now only getting about 8mpg , are there any gas stations on the route or at a planned stop?
Car goes in next week for them to figure out why it runs so good:D , but uses so much gas . I went to lunch the other day near the Galleria. About 30 miles each way and used a tad over half a tank.

there are gas stations in a few places although therey are not common along the route.
According my my calculations at 16 gallons x 8 mpg you still get 128 miles.
The distance between gas stations is well below that mark. There is a gas station within spitting distance of lunch. We can all stop in there before or after lunch and gas up if we need it.

I borrowed a Valentine V1 from a friend, so I'll be running with that tomorrow, I don't speed, but hopefully it will keep us all out of trouble.
I don't have a two way radio, so if you guys want me to run point I may need to borrow one.

If I can find where my wife put them, I have four 2-ways I can bring. I just have to find them and battery them up.

The drive will go on as scheduled tomorrow rain or shine.
See you there 10 AM!
The forecast is for scattered showers, but that was also the forecast for today and most of the area recieved only a trace of rain and little more than a few clouds.
If for some reason we get completely rained out; the group will have an early breakfast then decide our options (Kartzone maybe?)

Well, I really had planned on making it, but circumstances have conspired against me and I have to be in three other places at the same time.

Actually if the interest level is there I think we should do another as early as the last week of September or First week or two of October.
Thoughts or comments?
BTW - Big thanks to all the RX-8 owners who came out and supported the drive today. I coulda sworn there was a RX-7 club in Houston but I might be mistaken. (lazy bastards, except the 4 of us out there)

Thanks to Keith and Lori. It was a great day for a drive and the route was perfect. I'm in for the next one. Thanks for organizing it. I checkout the photos and they were great shots.
