Houston Audio Shops
I'll be moving to the Houston area in a little over a month, and I'm considering replacing the stereo in my 8 to give it a little more thump. Does anyone know if there is a decent shop in/around Houston that has done RX-8 installs in the past? I know these installs are a bit tricker than usual because of the strange audio signalling used by Bose, and I'd prefer to go to someone with experience.
Thoughts/recommendations are appreciated.

I havent heard of any shops personally that have done RX-8(s) yet.
However, forum regular rotarygod has done a couple of custom boxes for local 8 owners.
I will let him give you his credentials himself. (The list is rather extensive.)

I had a car audio shop called Traffic Jamz do an install on my old Camry. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem doing it. Plus, the install and the stuff there is really cheap; I got a pair of top-end MB Quarts for just shy of 150$, but that was back in 2000. Try searching for them in Yellowpages. Or you can go the rotarygod route. His boxes are pretty cool.

I can do alot of stuff but by sheer virtue of not having the time to, I won't do anymore. It's not fair to keep people waiting forever and I've done this enough already.

I have done one on my 8 and it seems to sound and work pretty good....In my own opinion...
If you would like to, you can listen to mine when you get moved down here and we can see what we can do about getting something installed for you.
PM me if you want, letting me know when you will be down here and settled in and ready to do something to put some "bump in yo trunk".

The real motivation for looking for a shop is because I'd prefer to swap out everything except the head unit (those dashtop pods that give you a DIN mount just don't quite do it for me), and I haven't seen a great "tutorial" so far. I've done installs in the past, but those vehicles never required extensive rewiring (IE: speaker leads were usable).
Has anyone in the area replaced all of the speakers before?

Yes, each speaker is pre-amped on the Bose, but the issue is that these amps are a little weak for most mid-range after market speakers, and I'd prefer to remove all of the bose speakers/amps and replace them with aftermarket parts at the same time so I can avoid blowing out pieces because the Bose/aftermarket work.

I don't think it would be a problem replacing everything with aftermarket, I have done a couple of complete removal/install's with the Bose system before. If you want, look me up on this website when you move down here and I would be glad to help you install all of this for you, that is, if you want to do that. If not, I can probably give you a couple of good choices for different shops to take it to if you want to spend all of that money.....

Any luck on finding a Houston Store?
Any luck with finding a Houston store that will install into your car?
I bought my RX8 recently (with Bose). I just want to put an Amp and a Sub in mine. I did some installation in High School (like 10 years ago) and I realize I don't really want to do it again.
I read the posts and realize there are some specifics to the installation with the BOSE system.
I even went to a retail audio store and told them I have a factory Bose system and would just like to have an amp and sub installed. In between the guy chewing his food, he told me that they didn't recommend installing amps on factory, blah blah blah blah. He really P-ed me off and I walked out. I realized later if he agreed to, they probably would have messed it up anyway.
Does anyone know of a store that 1) will do it and 2) will do it correctly. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't mind spending money for it done right.
If all else fails, I don't mind doing it myself, I just REALLY hate running / splicing wires.
Thanks,
Trumpy

Hi again,
Does anyone know of any Houston audio shops that will know how to do a good job. Basically, I'd like to walk in and say "Hey I have an RX8 with Bose and I want a sub amp installed" and they know what to do.
Also, if there arn't any, is there a 'how to, pic by pic thread out there?' I really dread doing it myself, however I'm not above doing it.
I'm willing to spend a little money to have someone qualified to do it.
Thanks again.
