2008 Grand Prix Of Houston Canceled

POSTED: 8:44 am CST March 4, 2008
HOUSTON -- The red flag has been waved on the 2008 Grand Prix of Houston, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Grand Prix officials made the decision to cancel the event after the unexpected unification of the Champ Car World Series and Indy Racing League, leaving Houston off the schedule.

Officials said there's hope for 2009.

"We are saddened and disappointed to have to make this decision, but we remain optimistic that we will have the opportunity to bring the American Le Mans Series and the Indy Racing League to Houston in 2009," said Michael T. Lanigan, owner and chairman of the Grand Prix.

The event was set for Reliant Park in late April. Ticket holders will get a full refund.

For more information, visit the Grand Prix of Houston's Web site.
Damnit.

ALMS is not coming either. We are getting screwed completely this year. I hope Tony George rots in hell. He's done more to destroy good racing in the US than NASCAR has.

NASCAR has found a way to keep older open wheel drivers still racing in a competitive series.

Don't feel bad. They canceled ours as well.
Now, all that's left is Vegas.

It's not the loss of the Champ Cars that I'm mad about. Open wheel racing has been dead in the US for over a decade. It's the loss of ALMS that pisses me off.

Sebring would be cool but I can't get away. I would have had to plan it well in advance. With only so many days off a year, I try to reserve at least a week to be gone in the summer and a few days for Sevenstock. That leaves me with a couple extra to do with as I please. I don't want them all spoken for so early in the year.

It does suck, but there is some light at the end of the tunnell, however dim.

They are working hard to bring ALMS to Houston next year.
