Front License Plate

I got my car inspected last week, and I didn't have the front license plate on. I told the inspector that I had done some work to my car and had taken it off, but that it was in my trunk and I could install it if needed. The inspector actually interrupted me before I could get all of that out and said "Let me stop you right there. It isn't necessary." I clarified by asking if that meant that only the rear plate was required, and I was told yes. Has something changed in Texas that I don't know about?

Nope, nothings changed

The current law is as follows:

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle
, that have
been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.

This was taken directly from the Texas Capitol Website: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statu...htm#502.404.00

But is it required for inspection? There maybe a difference there.

We could start paintball attacking the cameras. In india they just use rocks... but i think we are more civilized than that.

While paintball is always fun, there's just something about a good slingshot that takes you back to child hood

So does certain suburbs here in Dallas.

I heard in parts of texas they are installing the speeding cameras on the highways. That will be total suck. On Top Gear they tested the cameras, and you have to do about 170 to get pass the camera without it being able to spot you.

The front plate is not a safety related inspectable item.

These speeding cameras, I am I correct to assume they have a radar attached to them?

I think it works by measuring the distance you travelled between two photos.
D = R/T
R = DT

They know the T (time) because of how much time is between when the two pics are taken.
They know the D (distance) because they can see in the pic how far your car travelled
With that, they can calculate the R (rate).

Then again, this is how the one in Top Gear seemed to work, i have no idea what they are using in texas.

Time to get that traffic camera blocker stuff that overexposes your license plate when they take a flash.

Actually in VA we've had things like that in stoplights for a while now, but they ALWAYS get thrown out in court because you CAN'T PROVE WHO'S DRIVING!!! Unless they have an EXTREMELY clear photo of the operator of the vechicle AND the lisence plate, it's thrown out. Here's how it works, owner of vechicle gets mailed the picture along with a summons to court, with all the evidence (when, where, etc.) then all he has to say is, I don't know if my husband/wife/kids/friends/neighbors were driving the car that day. And BAM, out of the court it goes. So I wouldn't worry too much about them.

^^-- i did the same thing on a few toll tag tickets here. My girlfriend at the time evidently ran a bunch of tolls in my car... and i got them all tossed out (including her... but thats another story).

Chr1s,
I dont think that'll work since these cameras don't use flashes.
