Hey hows it goin? I just bought my 8 about a month ago, and have seen a couple here and there. I have a stock titanium gray and have seen maybe 4 others here on the eastside, but haven't actually talked to anyone yet. How many 8-owners are here in EP now?

I am! My SR cat failed last week, so I just installed my RP 'supercat' yesterday. I live on the west side, but have to start looking for ya. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club.

NoTears, do you have to take off the engine cover to install the mazdaspeed strut tower brace?

Yes, but if you want to keep the engine cover, you have to alter it some. I remember reading somewhere on the site about someone who cut the holes open a little larger and filed down some of the ribbing on the underside and it fit. I've had my engine cover removed for well over 2 years now and have had absolutely no performance issues and no heat damage to the hood, so its all good either way.

Meh, I'm not worried about performance or heat damage, I just like how clean the engine bay looks with the cover.

Yeah, thats all that matters is that you like it. I'm sure you can find the thread about the guy who altered his to fit. Shouldn't be too much work.

El Paso BMW/Mazda Service Department

This goes beyond customer service....

Last week after washing the car (I still owe pics) I noticed my drivers side tail light was fogged. After one week it still had condensation.

I was really busy all week and didn't get a chance to call Mazda about it. Friday evening, 5 pm to be exact, I called the El Paso BMW/Mazda Service department. (Formerly Mack Massey Mazda)

Larry is the service manager and I told him about my problem. He asked me to hold for a few minutes while he checked to see if they had one in stock.

He came back on the phone and told me there was one in stock but they needed permission to swap this out under warrenty. He said he would make the call and get back to me.

10 minutes later Larry called back and told me that everything was a go and to bring my car in on Saturday.

I called Friday evening and this was taken care of on Saturday. With such short notice I didn't expect them to be able to do this for me but I had to ask.

Kudos to Larry and the El Paso BMW/Mazda Service Department.

Thats great! We really are lucky to have such a great service department at this dealership. Especially when you consider that they usually only have a skeleton crew working on Saturday.

I left my car once for a long weekend in the dealership. I went to San Antonio... When I came back, I notice a dent on the passenger side rear panel. Larry fixed that for me within that week.
He is a great guy

Very true, Larry will take care of everything. I took mine in to have the AC checked 'cause it wasn't working right. When I got it back there was a deep scratch in the leather in the steering wheel.. They had to replace the whole airbag system. It took a week to get the part but they made it a top priority to fix it.

Yes, Larry is great!

Fat Tuesday
http://www.wupweekly.com/showArticle.asp?articleId=1265

Cincinnati Street

For the third year straight, Cincinnati Street is dolling itself up like Bourbon Street for a big blowout.

The Kern Place Association - which includes O2, G2, Bar 26, Cincinnati Bar, Rol, Crawdaddy's, Hemingway's, Fellini Café, Ardovinos, Casa Jurado and The Cigar Shop - is bracing for 5,500 partiers this year, says Keith Mahar, owner of Bar 26.

Outdoor decorations, Cajun cuisine, bead vendors and local reggae band Border Roots will help remake Cincinnati.

“We'll have another gentleman, Lionel Johnson, from New Orleans who played on Bourbon Street before he evacuated,” he says. “He's a trumpet player who's played the blues for 10 years. He'll be walking through the crowds and playing.”

Twenty-six off-duty police officers and a sound barrier should keep the night - and the neighbors - happy.

“That's one of the requirements for getting this approved, and one of the ways we've been able to work with the neighborhood association here,” he says.

Inside, the clubs each promise drink specials and DJs spinning all night. It'll cost you $7 and a 21-and-over ID to get you in the doors, which open at 7 p.m.

El Paso Convention Center

In 2003, 15,000 people streamed into the Convention Center on Fat Tuesday, said Laurie Garcia, the center's marketing coordinator.

“We're expecting the same number this year,” Garcia says. “It was all set up kind of where you could stroll around. There were booths that have contests, face painting or beads. There's a giant center stage and parades running through.”

This year, hard-rockers The Filthy Skanks, rapper The Dirty Wormz and Latino Elvis tribute artist El Vez will hit the stage. Seafood gumbo, shrimp cocktails and muffaletta - a kind of New Orleans bread - will be served all day,

along with other Cajun dishes.

“From 11 to four, we get people coming in for lunch, so it's something very different,” she says. “We get businesspeople stopping in, so it's calmer and quieter.”

The party goes from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday. Admission costs nothing before 4 p.m.; $5 from 4-7 p.m.; and $10 after 7 p.m. 21 and up admitted after 4 p.m.

...anyone going?

I'll give it a bump this time.

I just thought I'd let you guys know I found a person that does PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) One of the salesman at Mazda of El Paso recommended him. My wife bought a MazdaSpeed 6 two weeks ago and we already got a dent. This guy charged $55 to fix it and it looks like new.

I'm not sure about the rules for posting his phone number so PM me if you want it. The name is "Dents by Blane" and he is mobile and will come to you or meet you.

Welcome to the club! Where do you work on Bliss? There are a couple of us here that are fellow Fort Bliss "employees".

Unrelated topic: where are all the photos, guys? I need pictures so I know who to look for.

I was probably the red one. As you know, it is spring cleanup time, so I was cruising Haan Road (which belongs to my unit) and u-turned down Austin. I did see an 8 with what looked like a dealership tag on the front, but I thought it was grey (maybe my eyes are going bad). I did wave.

I live on the west side of EP, and work at Abernathy in 6th BDE.
