I'll try the ramps tonight and see what I find. It sounds like a thunking/clunking (great words) when the wheel goes over a series of small bumps.

I think its some metal thing under there. Kalidors8 was talking about how he had the same sound and just had to reposition the metal shield.

My suspension is stock and it makes the same noise so it wasn't your upgrade.

Hrm... interesting... I had never noticed it previously (neither had my gf). Granted, the handling is great now. Can't wait to add some sways and struts.

Well, got under the front when I got home today, and everything was tight. Just about every bolt was just shy of torque specs, so I tightened up everything that I could remember being removed. I'll have to see if the sound still exists. If it does, maybe it's just something that's going to be there from now on. *shrug*. As long as it doesn't fall apart while I'm driving down 635, we're good, hehe.

oh, side note... when you have your 8 up on ramps and you're torquing all your bolts and trying to find the right angle for leverage, don't brace your arm against your oil pan when you just got home 10 minutes before.

Well, the sound is still there, so I'm going to be checking out the bolts on the back set. If everything is still fine, then I guess I've just got a new sound, and that I can live with.

Well, at first I thought it was coming from the right front, cause Lindsay was able to hear it to begin with, but I wasn't. Then this morning on the way to work I really heard it, and it did still sound like it was coming from the right front, so that's why I focused on the front while I had the light this eve.

When I took her out later, I thought that *maybe* the sound is coming from the rear, and the orientation of the cabin to the wheels is throwing me off. I'm not certain whether the alignment bolts got retightened after everything else that we did to that back left.

I'll get at the back side tomorrow after work and see if anything is loose and torque it all down.

It handles just fine, I just only hear this sound when I'm going over a series of small bumps. Maybe I'll head out to Rack Daddies tomorrow night if the torquing doesn't fix it and let you hear it for yourself and see if you have any thoughts.

Alright, I think I might know what the cause is... the midpipe. That would explain why it *sounded* like it was coming from the front right (from the driver's perspective). I'll check tonight to see if it looks like it's been banging against the crossmembers.

I find the exhaust system expands and sags when it's hot. Then it bangs down against the cross support right where the midpipe attaches to the catback.

Put a hanger on the midpipe (right where the stock cat has it) and it's problem solved. That is unless yours is banging somewhere different.

Otherwise, don't worry about it (ignore it) or stuff a wad of steel wool between the pipe and cross support so it won't rattle and bang.

I have a banging there as well, it sounded like it was coming from the right front near the cat also but I really think its the cat hitting the cross members after the rubber bushings heat soak and get more plyable. I'm going to remove the cross memebers tonight before the meet at Jenkin's house to see if that fixes the problem. I have the stock exhaust like you.

odd -- seems im the only one without major "banging" issues with the RP cat... the heat shield was poorly spot welded.

after fixing that little issue for 10 bucks its run like a dream

My guess is that rear skidplate/cross member. A hanger would solve that definately. just remove that one for a day and see if it makes a difference.

I took the underbraces off and that seems to have fixed the noise. those braces don't serve a major purpose but I'll get the hanger installed and then put them back on. Guess the stock exhaust really is heavy enough to sag when it gets hot.

i think us from around DFW/Longview tx need to get together some where in dallas and handle some of this.. i have a few add-ons i would like to take care of.. or we could just have a lil rotorfest southern style.. i have 3 that would follow me down there any time thro the 13th-19th.. i will be in dallas/FW on the 19th.. and 20th. Any ideas on if we can do it that week? or just a rotor get together! I'm game!

Jenkins is correct... the 8 is gone. Hiley Mazda in Arlington gave me a great deal on a trade I couldn't pass up.

I've got MS fog lamp brackets and fog lamps left over and the sound system. PM me if you're interested in these.
