July 15, 2007 Regional Event #5 – ON THE ROAD COURSE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY!
Registration & Tech 7:30AM-8:30AM
Online Registration available at DLBRacing.com.
Entry fee is $25 for SCCA members and $35 for non-members (special price for road course event only).
All participant vehicles must pass Tech Inspection on site.
I really want to encourage anyone who is on the fence about autocross to come on out to the SCCA event at Texas Motor Speedway on the 15th. We only get one chance every season to run on the actual road course, and this is it! This event is also the Southwest Formula SAE Invitational, so you’ll get a chance to see some of the fastest cars from the top engineering universities in the country.
I’ll be out at both the SCCA event on the 15th and the ER event on the 22nd. Stop by the #75/175 RX-8 in the paddock and say hi!

1935 lbs. FTW!
I will be at BMW, thinking about running the ER event in the Miata if I can get it ready and also interested in SCCA. Do they run the infield course only or the roval?

Still, it's worth it. It is always a fun, fast course (we got well into third gear in the pouring rain last year) on a very good surface.

is this a bad place to learn and just get used to a track. i have never been auto-x but i really want to go. i also plan on attending a drivers school later this summer. however, i think it would be good to get out on the track to get used to it before i go to the drivers school. Is this gonna be ok for that?
thanks

I would highly encourage you to come out to a few autocrosses before getting involved with track days or HPDE. Autocrossing will teach you the basic car control skills that you'll need for higher speed track events, but it will teach them in a much safer environment, where the consequences of making a mistake are a lot easier to live with.
This event will still be an autocross in the sense that there is a course lined out with cones on the infield road course. In other words, you won't be hammering down the inside straight at 100mph. However, if you want to step up to track days, this is probably a good place to start.

i plan on attending Bobby Archers driving school. as of right now it seems the TMS on the 15th is my best bet, but which would you recommend for a newbie who just wants to get used to the feel of a track setting.
thanks, Nick

As far as seat time goes, BMWCCA and S2000 are your best bet.

Infield course only. There will probably be Richard Petty cars on the oval - there usually are on the weekends.

unfortunately the 14th is out for me. im hoping to attend the 15th at TMS and the s2k event on the 28th. The event on the 15th is a solo, does that mean i'm on my own, or can i get an instructor like at the s2k event. i also dont know if i need my own numbers, any other newbie advice would be very helpfull, whatever you think ill need for my first auto-x.
Thanks for all your help, i cant wait.
