Desperately Seeking Oil Change

I've got an engineering degree, designed/installed a whole car A/C system, and LOVE my car, but I still haven't bothered to learn how to change my own oil. After I wash my embarrassingly dirty 8, is there a car lover in the Heights-ish area that wants to help a chick out?

Wow you are impressive!

Do you have all the tools (Jacks/sockets/wrench)? How long are you due for an oil change?

You would just need to get under your car with an oil drain pan and loosen one bolt near the passenger side. There is a oil filter in your engine bay that is in a tight spot that needs to be twisted off. After that its just tightening back the oil drain plug and new filter. & of course topping off the oil

Where are you located? I or someone here in Austin could probably help you, we have a whole car club of people who geek on turning wrenches and doing stuff like this.

The trickiest part will be the oil filter since it's upside down ('til 2009). I've found it's removed best by unscrewing it until the rubber seal just breaks loose and then leaving it for few minutes for the oil to drain out of it. Then when you take it off, there's no mess. The best tool for the filter is the 3-claw one that attaches to the end of a ratchet.

If you have an '09+ here's a good thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...009+oil+filter

I'm in Austin and could help out.

Uh oh, I guess I didn't realize my profile on this site was 5 years old... When I said Heights in my original post, I meant HOUSTON Heights.

I'd gladly check your oil!

If I were closer, I'd be glad to help. Anyone?

yeah I can help too provided you have some shaded space to work, I don't like to work under the sun. I also need to change the oil in my car, perhaps we should turn it into an oil changing day meet.
