Recommended Dealership in Houston
Recommended Dealership in Houston
Can anyone give a recommendation for best dealership in Houston to handle complex repair work? It's been about 10 years since I last brought a rotary to a Houston dealer so I'm a bit out of touch. Bought an '04 RX-8 last October as a weekend/fun car and I have some concerns it may need another warranty engine replacement.
This may not be helpful in the least, but I've known Rocky, the service manager at Gullo up in Conroe, quite literally, my whole life. He worked for my parents when the dealership belonged to them and moved with the business when the Gullo's bought it. I can't speak for the dealership itself, but if my 8 were in a million pieces (or even just 2), I'd be at his doorstep. You might consider giving him a call just to get his opinion. I know I've called more than a couple of times from out of town/state to make sure that the information I'd been given about my car was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Thanks for the info guys. I tried to get some diagnostics done at Performance Mazda (closest to me), but there were some snafus on their side and its unlikely I'll be back. I'll try one of the dealerships mentioned here instead.
I ran a compression test myself and the motor is running >120psi all faces (rpm compensated), so it seems I'm good to go for now.

Yeah, I need to make it out to a meet some time, but my schedule sucks. I've previously owned '86 and '93 RX-7s, but the RX-8 is different enough that I'm not sure what is "normal" at times.
From what I can determine, the car is a late '04 which has had all of the recalls including a motor replacement at 28k miles in '06. Given the timing, I suspect the new motor has always had the "good" reflash. The 8 years will expire before I get 100k miles on it. If it's going to go, I'd prefer that it goes under warranty and before I start modifying and tracking it
