Defensive Driving

I have to take DD for a ticket wondering if any one else has to take DD also. If so do you want to try to get a group discount for a class or something.

The best defense is a good offense!

So I practive offensive driving as a defense

See if you can take it online... then atleast you can do it at work or in your undies.

online is the way to go... another advantage (in addition to the undies one) is you can leave and come back to it as much as you want.

I always did the Defensive driving course at the Improv in Addison, six and a half hours and you are done. Most of the time everyone just sits around cracking jokes about what they are in there for and you are done before you know it.

I had to take a 12 HOUR (3day) driving class after my 4th speeding ticket in a month. It was for Hibitual Traffic Offenders.

Some of the tickets were BS :

42 in a 35 (industrial park at around 10pm...no trafic, just closed warehouses)
65 in a 55 (8 lane TOLL highway, medium trafic, sunny clear day, around 1pm)
58 in a 50 (4 lane center median road, about 9pm, low traffic, near downtown)
65 in a 50 (2 lane country road, nothing but farmland, clear day, around 2-3pm, low traffic)

The last one Im not mad about 15 over on a 2 lane road is a bit much, there were some driveways to the farm land on the sides of the road so someone could have pulled out, and being 2 lanes there was no median just a double-yellow. But even so its out in the middle of nowhere farm land.

In all cases I was driving the same speed the avg people always drive, and 3 out of the 4 i dont feel were unsafe speeds. although I was breaking the law, and know the risk of speeding so I didnt complain, I just sent them to my traffic attourney, 3 were dismissed out right, the last (65 in a 50) was downed to 'failure to obey a traffic device' (speed limit sign) I payed a $100 fine plus $35 in court fees and took the 12hr traffic class, no points were assesed.

I always get at least 1 speeding ticket every year, 9 times out of 10 they get dismissed (technicality, officer doesnt show up, ect) and the ones that arnt dismissed I take a reduced fine and traffic school (court ordered trafic school doesnt count against the 5 you can do in you life time) and avoid the poitns.

I still am a 'safe driver' and get the respective discount on my INS, my INS has never gone up and ive never had any points on my license or any suspensions/revocations.

Is it bad that I get out of the tickets by spending money on a lawyer? Am I a bad driver cause i speed? What do you think? Feel free to ask questions or flame me...

As additional info, I have never been in a car accident, or caused one (although I did bump the side of my garage backing out of it (when i first got the car, was still used to the size of the miata, oops) but never any other incidents, the only times ive ever been in trouble with the law is for speeding tickets (not even a Jwalking or Parking ticket) and the 'worst' speeding ticket i ever got was 80 in a 60 on part of I75 in the middle of no-where GA, where there are trees on both sides. I was keeping pace with most of the other cars at the time.

EDIT: i have also never had any points on my licence and QUESTION to the police on the forum, when a speeding ticket that was issued gets dissmissed, does it show up on my record when a officer 'runs' my licence? Like does it show that i was given a ticket and it was dismissed or does it just not show up, and for the tickets I had pleaed down, do they show up with that info?

Im just wondering if when I get pulled over and the officer 'runs' my licence if this big list of infractions shows up or shows that ive "beat" all these tickets in the past or whatever....just wondering.

I've been pulled over five times, issued a ticket twice. This last time when the cop ran my license, he said there was nothing there other than something in 2001. This "something" had no resolution to it so it could have been either my first ticket or an accident where I was hit by a drunk driver. This leads me to believe that they can't see how often your license is "ran," rather only when you're issued citations or when the cops are called out. But if you're issued a lot of tickets and they're then dismissed, I wonder if the "system" is updated to reflect the dismissal. It could be possible that when you're pulled over and the cop runs your license, he/she sees all of the tickets you've been issued, regardless of the outcome of the tickets. If this is the case, that sucks.

did i ever mentioned i got pulled over at the last BJs meet.
Goodstick was in the car and can testify to this.

Evidently flying through the addison tunnel (full blast) is ok, but taking a U-Turn is a big NO NO. HEHEHE, i got lucky and didnt get a ticket, nor did he notice the lack of a front license plate.
