I have an '04 rx8 and have taken it to my dealership here in Dallas for everything. I'll be moving to Austin in June - can anyone recommend a good dealer there or a very reputable shop? Thanks - Austin kicks a$$!!!

Edit: thanks to Rez & canaryrx8 for replying even though i accidentaly posted this in the se forum, meant to put it here in gulf.

aftermarket/custom shops as well

i got replys to premiermazda.net and mazda south, as well as a place called jcauto. if anyone can support or refute their shops that would be great. but also, is there any "custom" shop, one that could do little stuff like auto up/down switches for all windows, install a start button, custom exhaust, etc. thanks to all who can help!

I can support them all, also my car audio sponsor does other work on the side as you mentioned (guy has been into customizing forever), they're called AudioFx, give them a call and tell them Randall sent ya', he installed my springs, he's done other people's suspensions and what not too

thanks!

thanks guys! i actually went to college there and graduated about 4 yrs ago, just had a crappy civic then so the hills and twisties weren't so much fun my girlfriend and i were down there a few weeks ago though getting our apartment and drove out on 360 and 2222 in the 8, it was AWESOME!!! i'm looking forward to it.

thanks for the audiofx nod, i'll be sure to check them out once we're settled in (moving in june). I could use a new audio system by then anyway!

hey, isn't that one shop based out of austin? -read about them in a magazine i think - they have a turbo'd 8 they're working on with the hole/rotary symbol cut in the front where the intake is ... ? maybe i'm wrong, but if so i wonder if they do anything else. i'll be getting a new cluth/flywheel package SOMETIME this summer that'll need to be put in.

Welcome to Austin!!!! I haven't any complaints with Mazda North on Burnet Rd. MZM iInternational is great shop to get your car tuned or if you have parts that need install FI. Alot of guys that I've know have taken their cars and swear by them. Last time I passed by there they were working on a couple of FD's!. ProTech Performance is also another shop but I haven't heard to much about them. Bienvenida!

oh dang, I would not spend money at mzm or protech but that's just me (and some of our more experienced club members). You're thinking of Acosta out of Jersey who had the hole cut out on their 8, pro-tech has a turbo kit but nobody I know will buy from them as they're scared by all the bad **** they hear about them. (losing people's parts, spending their money w/o getting their parts, over-charging people etc etc.) I've heard both good and bad about mzm/protech, but definitely more bad so you're better off going to Dallas or Houston and dealing with some of the more reputable shops up there if you need serious work done, or even jcautospec in Round Rock. 2222 is the bomb-dizzle, and it gets really fun once you follow it west past 620

You know those FD's I was talking about. Well right after posted I went down to MZM to talk to them about maybe tuning my 8. Well as I drove by there those FD's, and some WRX's were being towed plus the cops were there! I didn't even bother to stop by and ask. So yeah maybe they aren't as reputable as I thought. As far as Pro-Tech thanks for the heads up! "Homie"

If you want to have any tuning done I would look up Boost Logic or maybe even jcautospec. (they're more of a repair shop though) Boostlogic is primarily a Supra shop, but they do work on rotaries and tune non-supra's from time to time, there's a pretty cool guy (and fellow rotard) there named Lino who drives a ported Fc etc.
If it were me and I was serious about it, I would hook up with Steve Khan out of Dallas, from everything I've heard/read that dude knows his shizzle, might be pricey but as well learn the hard way, quality almost always costs more than crap I think you can find him through gotham racing.

damn canary, you know your shiz-it huh. i'll keep all that in mind. i plan on staying na for a while, it's still my daily driver. so i'm looking for simply things like oil changes and check-ups, but also engine things like flywheel/clutch and pulleys, and then some minor comsmetic things like painting/installing a body kit and fixing the holes in my trunk (gasp!! - i have to do that soon!)

do you guys ever meet up or have install gatherings in austin? i've never been to one in dallas (where i live now) but i've seen posts of people who do...

+1 for Steve. I've met him personally he knows his tuning, and he knows his race setups for track days. He was my instructor at a DE event earlier this year.

We're having an install meet soon. See the other thread in this section.
