Well, got my sub box orderred.
Might be here this week, we'll see.

Uhh..
Now for the sub.. i gotta pick one..
So far I've had the following reccommended:
JL 10W6V2 (400W 83.7 dB SPL Dual 4Ohm)
Rockford Fosgate P310D4 (400W 85 dB SPL Dual 4Ohm)
Audiobahn ALUM10N (800W 95.6 dB SPL Dual 6Ohm)

Now, I wonder about a few things..
Why the hell is that JL $400?
Why is the audiobahn Dual 6Ohm voice coils and why if it's so efficient is it so much cheaper than the other 2? (you can get them for $70 whereas the cheapest I've seen the fosgate is 175).

I still need an amp too..

I highly recommend the JL audio, it is going to be the best sounding out of all of them.

I think we need a "Come help paint the inside of TeamRX8's house" party
oh dude im totally down for THAT!

Anyway, I'd like to come out for a few hours and meet you guys, if I'm invited. I won't have anything to install, but I'd be willing to help out and perhaps learn a few things.

Oh and ajax, JL is a fantastic company. While Audiobahn's numbers are impressive, they're either fake or doctored. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I'll ask around some audiophile buddies of mine, see what I can dig up.

[edited to make up for my terrible late night grammar]

Someone doesn't know much about Audiobahn stuff, I have been in tones of Audiobahn vehicles and they always sound amazing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with JL too but damn they are proud of their stuff! Dude don't spend an arm and a leg for this stuff if you are wanting to enhace your sound, your not going to sound competitions. But that is my suggestion and it is your hard earned money.

Well by that logic he should just go to Fry's and get some cheap-*** kenwoods to "enhance" his sound. :D

Also jenkins, I can't help but feel you're biased by that GIANT *** AudioBahn poster behind you.

Well, the interesting thing is that whether I buy the JL or the Audiobahn sub, when you add in the AMP, I'll be spending the same amount of money.
I found an online site selling the JL Sub for 240 + shipping.
I also found the e1400 amp for close to 300.
To really power that audiobahn sub, i'm gonna need a more powerful amp, 800w minimum to put the sub in it's optimal operating range..

Just something I thought I'd point out.

JL Audio is ok stuff... don't get me wrong... but it's not worth the money they want for it. I could take Audiobahn or Kicker, spend half to 3/4 the money and get a sound system that sounds just as loud with the same clarity. I would have to recommend staying away from Fosgate however. They have outstanding amplifiers, while their subs are a bit on the weak side.

I have had a little of everything and have found Kicker to be my preferred sub for the sound, clarity, and money ratio. I understand that Kicker is not one of your preferred subs, so I would definitely go with the Audiobahn.

That said, if you did decide to go with the JL or any other dual 4 ohm sub, you might have to go with 2 amps. Most, not all, amps that are 2 channel can only be ran at 2 ohms when in Mono. However, taking a 6 Ohm DVC sub to 3 ohms and running it Stereo should not be an issue. Just something else to think about.

Ajax - If you are interested, I have 2 brand new Kicker CVR DVC 10" subs (4 ohm VCs) if you would like to hook them up and listen before you purchase your subs... just let me know.

Thanks for the info.
I'm only going to be running a single sub so mono is no big deal.

I have no problem with kicker. It just wasn't one of the subs I was reccommended. I honestly can say I started out knowing nothing about Subs/Amps and now I know a little but the biggest truth is sound quality is subjective. It's hard to listen to every sub out there because you really need to hear it in your enclosure to know how it's going to sound.

I have .8 CF of air in this sealed enclosure. Does that fit into kicker's range for operation?

The actual range for the enclosure on the CVR 10s are .75" - 3 ft (being ported).

Have you picked your amp yet?

Nope.
The only thing I have coming in so far is the box.

Are you kidding me. I dont know my stuff? Im not trying to be a dick or rude at all here. But, Audiobahn is not and never will be considered High End Equipment at all. Yes they can be made to sound good. Hell I have a full Audiobahn set-up in my wives show Cavalier. I have installed 40 thousand dollar set-ups in Airplanes and each 10 inch sub used was 8 grand a piece. I know a little on stereo equipment as I have been in the industry since I was 15 working with my dad at his company.

In the end it all boils down to what he wants. But if you do go with Audiobahn or any speaker for that matter, dont go with the lower speakers in their line.

Also food for thought. From what Auto Sound And Security Mag did a test on a few popular speaker lines and the Audiobahn actually posted rating higher than the speakers could handle at for optimal levels.

Ajax,

What kind of box are you going with?
When you decide on an amp, let me as I think I am doing a very similar set up in my car soon.

For what it's worth: JL's are very good subs (and pricey) but I had dual Audiobahn 12's in my Mazda 626 and those things sounded awesome!

As far as speakers go, the best thing to do is to go around to a couple different car audio shops and listen to them, put different types of music through them and go from there. I used to own 2 12" JL audio's so I am a little biased but I am sure that Audiobahn, and some other manufacturers make a decent sub. It all depends on your budget and the overall effect you are going for. I recommend spending some money and have the amp, crossover, and equalizer installed by a well known shop. Jenkins and Richard would be the best ones to ask on the board.

holy ****, how many cars do you have? so far I've counted a full race SRT-4, you're asking about turboing an 8, you have a solstice too? and now a show cavalier? (er...cavalier...show?..mmmkay) what's next? I say pics or bs and if I'm wrong, I apologize and you're one lucky dude..i guess..or something lol

and not that I'm biased either, but honestly some of the Soundstream stuff I'm running is actually pretty decent (And I was verrrrry aprehensive at first, even considered swapping it out for other stuff for a while) They've hired one of the guys from Crossfire to help run the show there and he's already made numerous changes to improve their products, I give it another 6 months to a year and they may even return to being better than the Soundstream of old
