Anyone have this problem?

I've taken it back to the dealer for this and they say there is nothing wrong with it...

When I put the car in reverse and start to back up it sounds like there is a clunking noise coming from the right front suspension, or it's coming from the transmission. It's an awkward sound for it to make and I don't think it should be doing that.

The dealer stated it's the bearings in the suspension and that all RX-8's make that noise.

Anyone come across this in their 8's?

Have you had it checked out or anything, or is something I do not need to worry about?

Clunking noise? could you be talking about the ABS self-test?

yea, I hear the same sound too. Usually in the morning when backing out of the driveway. Then again in the evening when leaving work. Dont recall hearing it when I'm buzzing around the neighborhood. Hopefully it is the ABS selftest

It happens at least everytime you start the car. What do you mean by "every time you back up"?

To see if it is the ABS test give it a minute before you start to move. You can feel the ABS test forward or reverse if you start moving before it has completed initialization. If you still get the same sound after waiting it is something else and should be investigated. Good Luck

I've been wondering what the "boing" sound was that I hear everytime I start off. It's like six feet into the first movement of the car. It sounds like my recliner at home when I let the legrest down with weight on it. BOING is the only word I can come up with to describe it. I only hear it when the car first rolls, so I'll assume it's the ABS test that you guys are speaking. Thanks.....

I think "boing" is a good description.... I've heard it on mine, too. Generally, it's first thing in the morning when I'm backing out of my driveway and in the evenings when I pull forward to leave the parking lot at work. I don't recall hearing it at any other times during the day when I've driven it.

Maybe I'm nuerotic. I hear it all the time, it feels like something is slipping out of place. But mazda swears there is nothing wrong with it, so I guess we'll find out with time.
