I've tried to get groups to go for the last couple of years, it seems like most will say they want to go, but noone comes through in the end. It's a nice drive if you've got the time.

I'll be doing driving back from NY this fall, I plan on rolling through there on my way back.

Yes. US Highway 129

U.S. Route 129 is a spur of U.S. Route 29. It currently runs for 582 miles (937 km) from Knoxville, Tennessee to Chiefland, Florida at U.S. Route 19 and U.S. Route 98. It passes through the states of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. It goes through the cities of Knoxville, Tennessee, Gainesville, Georgia, Athens, Georgia, and Macon, Georgia. Eleven miles of US 129 located on the Tennessee/North Carolina border is known as the Tail of the Dragon, a popular motorcycle and sportscar destination. The Dragon's name is apparently derived from the roadway's resemblance to a dragon's back. The Dragon runs from Tab Cat Creek to Deals Gap and has 318 curves.

I went last year and I am planning on going again. I would be interested in a group to get a cabin.

I was going to book a room that can sleep 2-4 people today just in case everyone flakes-that way if a few people come it can accomodate four but if they don't, I guess it's not too huge for just two-but not a single person will commit with me. So...I don't know. Seems silly to miss out on the discount.

So for the record, I am 100% absolutely going. And would be in for a cabin as well but would settle for just one other person saying they're coming for sure!!

Alright, I emailed the village to get prices for each type of unit although I jotted some down the other day and I think it ranges from $120 to $160 (I don't remember if I looked into cabins or not).

Scott (987 HYS) and I are committing and I'm dragging my sister along and it sounds like Myardor wants to be included in potential plans so it looks like we could get a cabin that sleeps 4-6. If anyone is toying with the idea of coming, speak now!

If they email me back with prices and that cabin is ridiculously more expensive than a lodge then we'll drop back down to something that sleeps 2-4 and everyone else will have to plan accomodations themselves.

So say somethin now even if you're not completely sure you're going to make it so we can consider you!

I'll keep everyone posted. I CANT WAIT!!

Yay, are you serious?! SWEET, I was hoping but too scared you'd say no so I didn't ask. Cool, I'll email you with updates, ask off work now and see what they say!

If I wasn't already going somewhere else that weekend, I might go. Cept I wouldn't stay at the lodge. I'd get a room at the Hampton for $29 a night (gotta love work connections). $29 is tough, especially when you split it 4 ways.

Have fun though.

Nah, this is in the middle of nowhere, you gotta stay at the lodge or you'll be driving an hour each day and you'll miss all the group activities goin on the other 12 hours of the day that you're not driving...trust me on this one.

Alright, got the room rates and all the policies for cancelling (psh, yeah, right) and changing rooms between reserving and showing up. So I'm gonna wait a few days and see if anyone else posts on this thing to get a head count but looks like we'll be getting a room that can sleep at least five people and rollaway beds are $15 a night if we actually get more than that. PM me with any questions for now.

So...what are yall waitin' for?!

Odd. The GPS coords the lodge offers shows it being less than 3 miles from the place I was referring to. Oh well.

Everything around there is very spread out, there are cabin type accomodations all over. The only Chain hotels we saw were near Gatlinberg (urg) which is a ways from the dragon.

Well in all honesty, I was thinking about the village we were at last year so that could be my mistake, sorry. Either way...you're missin' out so...

Alrighty, a cabin has been booked for the Gulf group, whoever that turns out to include. PM me for details if anyone wants them and I'll fill you in.

Also for those of you around Dallas, my sister and I have decided to have a much-needed garage sale since it can serve a double purpose now (cleaning out the garage AND helping pay registration fees if it goes well). If anyone in this area has stuff they want to get rid of around the house (regardless of whether or not you are going on the trip) we will be glad to put it out with our sale and return the proceeds/remains back to you afterwards, just PM me.

We're thinkin we'll probably try to rush and get one together for this Saturday but I'm sure we'll have a second one next Saturday as well.
