Machining is all done! We're finally ready for launch! (This was actually prompted by interest from the NC community to make this happen, but the brackets were all that we needed to complete the RX8 kit ). We actually have TWO big brake kits available now using the same brake bracket and hydraulics... a cheaper version which is just a caliper over stock rotor, and a more track oriented performance version which has a 2 piece directional curved vane rotor which is 32mm THICK! Reverse compatible with AP floating rotors as well
-Wilwood caliper over stock rotor - comes with brackets, lines, and calipers (323x25mm stock rotor) $895
-32mm (thicker) Wilwood caliper over SBG Directional Curved Vane 2-Piece rotors $1495
Pictures and group buy-pricing to come based on interest! Please add your names below if interested. We can put together competitive GB pricing for 10+ kits of either type!

Interested in the 2-piece kit. I previously had an FD that I ran time attack with, and I had this kit on it. I can't say enough good things about it - really consistent brake feel, really good fade resistance, it uses a pad design that's readily available, and the pads are thick enough to last for a long time.
That said, I already have some rotors that I bought as spares. So I would be interested in a kit without rotor rings.

"Super light" is mentioned in the name of the wilwood caliper conversion. Do you have actual weights? How about weight saving of the wilwood versus stock caliper? Is two small pistons always better than one large piston? What is the surface area of the pistons versus stock surface area?

Warrior777,
Here's the run down:
-
The Wilwood kits available for the RX8/NC Miata utilize a 355mm x 28mm rotor in the larger size, while our kit uses a 325mm x 32mm rotor. The two rotor selections are relatively similar in weight, but the Wilwood rotor has a much smaller air gap, less surface area and will cool quite a bit slower by comparison. The usable anulus of the 355 disc is also about the same size as the 325's, which is why both kits use extremely similar brake pads, but our kit has a 80mm thick pad as opposed to the 61mm thick pad offered with the Wilwood kit, so there's 1/3 more pad material, and as a result the pads last much longer.
Wilwood is now offering 6 piston Calipers with most of their kits, but what's very telling is that their standard 6 pot calipers use the exact same pad size/plate as the 4 pot. There's simply no need to go to a 6 pot in this application, so all you're adding is weight, and the ability to up-sell the product. Overall the brake kits are fairly similar in capabilities, but ours comes in a smaller better optimized package (Even though our disc is 325mm vs. the larger 355mm, the rotors have similar weight/heat soak ability, but ours is smaller, with more surface ability and the same usable surface and pad size). We also offer higher quality hardware, and significantly lighter weight rotor hats.
Of course, perhaps most importantly, Our kit is $1295, while the 355 Wilwood starts at $1881 and the vastly inferior 327 rotor kit is $1741 and up. We offer a lot more bang for your buck and a much lighter overall system with better performance and higher quality hardware. Please let me know if there is anything else you'd like clarification on, or alternatively, I'd be happy to talk to the potential customer if they're interested in making a purchase!
To get the actual weight number etc. You'd have to email them.

Thanks for the info comebackqid.
I did find a weight for the wilwood caliper that they used for their rx7 at the beginning of this thread. It was 4lbs 13.6oz. Assuming the rx8 caliper is the same weight it will just be the added weight of the caliper bracket and pads.
I found the weight of stock calipers on another thread:
Front caliper with pads -13lbs
Rear caliper with pads - 9lbs.
Surely there will be some weight savings. Even more with the brake rotors versus stock. But like the Girodisc thread probably anywhere from 2-3lbs per rotor.
Any idea what size piston is used in your wilwood caliper kit? How much do your caliper brackets weigh? Also how much do your larger 80mm thick pads weigh?
Thanks.
I'm interested in the caliper set as I already have the girodisc two piece floating rotors. Would you give a decreased price if I did not need the brake lines? Also am I correct in noticing the calipers are not a group buy item?
Also this would likely mess up braking bias so offering some kind of lightened rear setup preferably with an e-brake option would be excellent.

I have a pair of used RB 2-pc rear rotors if anyone is interested. Just finishing up a rear brake conversion and the rear OE brake rotor offset won’t work with it.

I would be curious to see if they sell this with a yellow caliper, if so that's a huge upside to me. Not a track star but for show and spirited driving these would be wonderful.
That being said I wouldn't buy for a little while yet unless I can side hustle my weekend drone business to get me 1300 in my pocket

Super Lite is the branding of the wilwood caliper. They have the weights in comparison on the first page of this thread if you skipped it.
