SBG Interest Thread: RX8 Track-Day Big Brake Kit
We are posting this thread at the request of a few RX8 owners to see if there is interest in producing an RX8 version of our FD Track-Day Big Brake kit. Utilizing many of the same components from our AP Competition Big Brake Kit, our Wilwood based brake kit uses the same pads and rotor size, but at nearly HALF the cost. The rotors can be upgraded to AP Rotors at a later date as the hat is the same.
Regarding the RX8 specific kit, if we can get 20 people on board, we can produce this kit! Price for the brake kit will be the same as the FD at $1600, however first-time introductory pricing would bring the base kit down to $1275 + shipping!!! We dare you to find another track worthy BBK for a similar price ;) . This kit will only happen with enough people on board (and PAID). As many of the components are shared with the FD brake kit, we could potentially turn this kit around in a few weeks after close. And now for the details! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...521ef5039d.jpg Building on the success of our AP Competition Brake System, we produced this brake kit, with the intention of bringing race-inspired engineering to the broader motorsports market. Utilizing many of the specifications of our AP kit, we have designed what is in essence, a light-competition brake system, employing high-end track & street components. The result is a system which provides incredible performance for cost, accessible to the broader driving enthusiast market, which can be easily upgraded to race-performance components if you choose. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6655065845.jpg Forged Superlight Calipers use the same 20mm Brake Pads that our AP kit uses. These not only add additional thermal barrier between the rotor and caliper, but will also last longer than a standard competition brake pad. Many other calipers use pads that are 12-17mm’s thick resulting in reduced thermal insulation (potentially more brake fluid boiling), and significantly increased pad replacement intervals. In essence you're getting more brake pad material for the same cost of a set of brake pads. Thanks to using a very common pad shape, replacing pads will also be significantly cheaper and easier to source. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6aad49397b.jpg Our SBG Premium Brake Rotors have been designed to provide the highest possible performance for cost. Our design utilizes race-inspired directional veins, which drastically increases air flow compared to a stock, straight vein rotor. Our proprietary slot design improves the responsiveness of braking, with better bite, and prevents excessive brake dust build up, keeping brake components clean and improving mechanical engagement. Optionally this kit is offered with an upgrade to AP Racing Floating Rotors for extreme track use. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...1753a31f58.jpg This is the perfect package for customers looking for the maximum bang for their buck when it comes to brake performance. Our Package Includes: • Wilwood Forged Superlight Calipers • 6061 Billet Caliper Mounting Brackets • SBG 325x32mm Solid Mount Premium Brake Rotors or Optional 325x32 Floating AP Rotors • SBG Designed 2024 T351 Aluminum Rotor Hats • DOT Approved Stainless Steel Brake Lines with dirt/abrasion sleeves • Full Pictorial Installation Guide For more details, view the product page, HERE! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6f2c4cf772.jpg |

Test fitting with various wheels.... you WILL need 17's. http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps8rnyyms4.jpg (custom kit we put together for our shop car) Attachment 218241 Attachment 218242 Massive 20mm thick (and cheap) racing pads do a great job of insulating the caliper from brake heat to prevent fluid boiling, and 32mm thick directional curved vane rotors add lots of rotor cooling! Our SBG custom valved Ohlins plus the front and rear brakes have drastically improved the handling of our shop RX8! |
Rear option with ebrake to match available???

I'm interested in getting both front and rear when you can provide options for the ebrake... less rotating mass and more braking power will be great but I do want an option to keep my ebrake...
|
^ just responded to you via PM, but I'll repeat it here:
We're working on a 4 corner matching BBK for the FD currently, and assuming there is interest from the RX8 community, we can engineer a rear kit for the RX8 as well with a parking brake option. The FD community has had a VERY large interest in the front kit so far, so engineering a rear kit made sense. We need orders coming in for the front kit to justify starting engineering on the rear... for a cost ballpark, it would be very similar to the front kit. It's not going to be any cheaper than the fronts, and that's possibly the sticking point for many people. If the market is there, we'll do it! |
Has interest in this topped out? If so we'll need to table this project. We can only manufacture this setup if you guys actually are interested in buying it. Please keep signing up or this thing will be in prototype form on our shop car only :) We're driving on it daily and they're fantastic brakes! Tons of torque and infinite brake capacity, track or street. Good from the first lap out to the end of the day, and doesn't bat an eye on our hour long backroad sessions

Just back from machining, S2000 front and rear kits and FD Front and rear AP and Wilwood kits! There's been a MASSIVE amount of interest from those communities, though for some reason the RX8 platform doesn't seem to be pushed performance wise. Hopefully something will materialize here though.
It's strange, maybe we're missing the average RX8 demographic? There are so many RX8's out there and we've seen the 8 has immense potential for performance... but somehow it appears to be an under-tuned platform as a whole. :boink: Attachment 218125 Attachment 218126 Attachment 218127 Attachment 218128 https://cdn.meme.am/instances/38868913.jpg |
ugh. So much want
|
Look great! Man if only more people got on board
|
Might as well give the RX8 some SBG love, it's been envious of the FD. Count me in.
|
Now we're cooking with gas! Keep em coming guys!
Also we may have an optional 6 pot version available... all depends on if you guys want this. Join up! |
I just rebuilt my motor for boost, but once my budget loosens up a bit I would love to buy one of these kits.
|
6pot you say?! pending price i might step it up but I'm for sure in on the current setup

Having said that, I want to know what would be the point of having a 6-pot caliper? What that be considered overkill outside of the track? |
^ Me too... Trying to free up money from other parts I'm buying... hopefully soon

Hmmm, so the more I ponder on this group buy, the more I want in on this. It is just a matter of when I get the money to do so.

I have Wilwood 4 pots on my rx8 and found brake performance was reduced vs stock . I believe the reason is that 4 pot piston area is actually less than the stock caliper .
To redress this I wondered about going to a larger disc . This would involve new mounting brackets to space the calipers out to the right position . Do you have the parts to achieve this ? If so how much ? |
Email us at Info@SakeBombGarage.com . Wilwood makes a ton of calipers (but no bolt on kit I've seen). There are a lot of factors ranging from piston size to rotor size which affects bias and brake performance. Email us, it's too complicated and distracting to talk about on the forum.

Nice job sbg, id get one if i didnt already have a bbk

Machining is all done! We're finally ready for launch! (This was actually prompted by interest from the NC community to make this happen, but the brackets were all that we needed to complete the RX8 kit :) ). We actually have TWO big brake kits available now using the same brake bracket and hydraulics... a cheaper version which is just a caliper over stock rotor, and a more track oriented performance version which has a 2 piece directional curved vane rotor which is 32mm THICK! Reverse compatible with AP floating rotors as well ;)
-Wilwood caliper over stock rotor - comes with brackets, lines, and calipers (323x25mm stock rotor) $895 -32mm (thicker) Wilwood caliper over SBG Directional Curved Vane 2-Piece rotors $1495 Pictures and group buy-pricing to come based on interest! Please add your names below if interested. We can put together competitive GB pricing for 10+ kits of either type! |
