I dont know if this is a recurrent issue, but Esmeril seems like they were unaware of this issue, and was taken by a fake as much as you were.
Considering they've been a vendor on here for a long time, have offered to refund your replacement, have done so in a quite detailed and polite way, why are you still flipping out??

I suppose you'd argue that "they knew it was a fake" but really considering Esmeril has a pretty established track record, and the way they're handling this, unless other people are making similar claims it seems unlikely. Yes, they offered customers "no name" parts on their early kits, but that was never misrepresented at all. I dont think there's ever been any issue with misrepresentation before this came into question.

Pretty established track record? Track record of what? Other people are not making claims because they were likely unaware that they had fake parts. They have not done anything to handle this as far as I can see and as far as the OP is concerned. I may be wrong but it sounds like his whole experience with Esmeril has been a cluster ****.

9krpmrx8 is 100% correct. Communication with them is like pulling teeth. Early on it was "New / old ownership" with mazdsparts.com....at least that's what I was told by Chris. Knowing what I do now, this was another b.s. story. If things were handled differently from day one this thread would not be here.

Things would also be different if this kit had been running for the past year then broke.....its been one thing after another so the car has never been fully driveable due to counterfeit parts.

Sucks man...This is why I do everything myself, besides having small pockets and trust issues. I like to be able to have myself to blame for failures.

Sorry to hear another Vendor attempting to make a good name for themselves failed miserably yet again...

BHR is the only Vendor I trust at this point...

Good luck in getting everything squared away.

Yeah in the "Esmeril is back" thread, Esmeril has been pretty much MIA from answering members questions, etc. So obviously there are some issues.

What about Turblown? I was thinking of going with Esmeril but now I'm leaning towards Turblown, as far as I know they don't have a bad record do they?

Elliot @ Turblown was great to deal with when I got my adaptronic ecu 2 weeks ago. If I had a choice to go back in time I would have gone with his kit.

I sent Turblown my Turbo to be upgraded/rebuilt and my manifold so they could fit everything. They were supposed to rebuild it, clock the center section correctly, and install and route hard lines for the coolant lines.

Initially its was supposed to take a few weeks and I finally got it back 6 weeks later from Comp Turbo in Cali. It was rebuilt as arranged and Comp did a great job rebuilding it and installing the new wheel. However, the turbo was clocked the way it was when I sent it to Turblown and it had no coolant lines. So I ended up having to have a machine shop fix it after some fellow SARX members discovered a more practical fix rather than installing hard lines.

Communication with Turblown was good and I don't think they attempted to defraud me or anything like that but I was upset that it took so long and that they outsourced the build without telling me. And then when it was not done correctly, they blamed Comp and the fact that did not have a chance to inspect it. Even if they did spot the problems, that would have just meant another couple of weeks waiting. So I was just glad to have it back in my hands at that point.

Turblown did offer to pay for the machine work I had done but it was only $60.00 so considering what I spent on the rebuild, I was just done with them and ate the cost.

Basically I paid $840.00 to have my already upgraded (54lb/min) turbo with only 600 miles on it rebuilt by Comp. The only upgrade they did was install a Billet wheel, which hopefully will make a difference and make it worth the $840.00 I spent. But the whole reason of sending it to them was to get the center section clocked correctly and the coolant lines situated so the oil drain would sit right and not cause the turbo to smoke. It's kind of sad IMO that two SARX members figured out that the freeze plugs could just be removed and the fittings could be put on the outboard side of the turbo (away from the engine) rather than messing with hard lines. So it was actually a blessing in disguise since this is the right way to resolve the issues.

I would recommend that anyone looking to use Turblown, not be in any hurry, ask lots of questions, and get everything in writing.

Looking foward to hearing the results failth&firepower. Sad to hear you had some troubles and hope they get resolved. Just a suggestion but it may be easier to receive a authentic Tial unit and sell it as a new unit instead of chasing payment from him. If he has the Tial unit already that would be easier for you to get your money back.

Since this is turning into a broad narrative regarding turbo suppliers I can supply some feedback regarding BNR.

Bryan ALWAYS answers the phone. I don't think I've ever hit voice mail or had to wait for a call back.

He stands by his work. I had a seal failure on my BNR upgrade right at the warranty mark (12 months) and while there was some question regarding root cause, Bryan rebuilt it for me with a very minimal surcharge.

As with any other busy shop you should always take his time estimates and multiply by two. If he says a week plan on two... even three. I don't see this as a huge negative... hell we're all busy. In the end what you get back is a decent product that has some backing from a world class guy.

Only experience thus far with Turblown is the Adaptronic order and Elliot has been extremely pro-active with wide open communication lines.

If I knew a little more about their shop, what stays in-house, what goes out, etc... At this point the next time I need rebuild work done I'm going to be hard pressed to decide which of the two gets my business.

Yeah, Bryan was always quick to respond to my questions. My biggest mistake was not going BNR when I had the chance. But it has been a learning experience for sure and as a result Shady's turbo should turn out great.
