Bad Guy: Goopy Performance

My experience dealing with Goopy has been overall horrible and I expect so much more from people in this community. I've never had a worse experience with a vendor.

October 15
  • I submitted an order through their website for around $1600 in parts, including a rotor housing refurbishment. I didn't receive email confirmation or a receipt for the order. I sent a message on facebook letting them know the issue and asking if the order had gone through.
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.

October 16
  • Received a reply saying that the order did not go through and to submit it again.

October 17
  • Re-ordered and had the same issue, sent a screenshot of the "Processed order" message I was getting on their website.
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.

October 18
  • Sent an email describing the issues I was having with their website and with all of the parts and quantities that I needed, asking them to process the order so that I could pay via Paypal
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.

October 21
  • Received an email with the address to send my rotor housings too and saying that the orders did not go through.
  • Confirmed that I could send the housings that day.
  • Received an email telling me to send the housings.
  • Sent the housings out with all of my information on the outside of the box.

October 23
  • Sent an email to goopy with the tracking information, saying that I had sent them on the 21st.

October 24
  • Received an email saying to make sure to include my information in the box.

October 28
  • Got confirmation from UPS that the package had been delivered.

October 30
  • Sent an email asking if Goopy had received the package.
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.

October 31
  • Received an email asking the name on the box
  • Sent an email with my name
  • Received an email saying that there was a box with no information inside.
  • Sent an email telling them exactly what was in the box and explaining that they didn't instruct me to include the information from the outside of the box inside the box until 2 days after I shipped them.

November 4
  • Received an email that the housings were done, asking for the other parts I needed with a price sheet (The cost of the housing refurbishment on the price sheet that I was sent was $35 higher than what is listed on the website). At this point I just wanted my housings back.
  • Sent back the price sheet with the items and quantities that I wanted.

November 6
  • Received invoice and sent payment.

November 7
  • Received a tracking number

November 12
  • Received the package with the housings and additional parts.
  • Inside the package were side seals that did not appear to be OEM side seals, with a large "Made in USA" sticker on their bag. (I very specifically ordered OEM side seals), in addition there were only 11 out of the 12 that I had ordered.
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.
  • Sent an email bringing up the issue of non-authentic seals, which I would have been fine using if there was a fill set and as long as I could find out who manufactured them.

November 13
  • Received an email asking why I didn't think they were authentic seals.
  • Tried calling, no answer/voicemail option.
  • Sent an email explaining the differences that I noticed from other seals I have seen.
  • Received an email with pictures of authentic side seals in a box with some Japanese on it telling me to send them back and that they were OEM seals.
  • Sent an email to confirm that I could send them all back for a refund.
  • Received confirmation that I could send them all back for a refund or Goopy could send me the missing seal. In this email. Below is the text of this email.
Yes if you wish i can send the one missing to you if you or if not then put them in a flat rate envelope and when we get them we will reimburse you the $215

We individually pack them all the time since some folks only want 6 or less than a full set so i am sure that was the mistake,.

We sell these all the time and very difficult to keep in stock ..if you want the same part number can be purchased below..just a bit more

atkins has them for $222 https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/0...1-11-C11C.html

mazdatrix $225 https://www.mazdatrix.com/product/si...t-to-fit-long/

But since you said that you overpaid for the seals at $215 and that I lied to you and sold you something not OEM then you can send them back.

Thanks

God Bless

GP
  • Sent this email explaining my frustration in minimal detail to keep things professional.
Hey I'm going to send them back and have my local shop (BHR) order them for my. Sorry if it wasn't clear from my last email but I do believe you and I don't think you've lied to me at any point, I'm just frustrated with the service that I've received so far.

The housings do look great and I appreciate what you do, I just had the idea that I'd at minimum have all of the parts I needed to have the engine back together by now. I made my initial order of over $1700, 28 days ago and I still don't have all of the parts that I need to get it done and you're the only vendor that I'd even be willing to wait this long on because of the reputation that you have in the community.

Throughout this entire process I've felt that there were failures in communication that really shouldn't be an issue in 2019. I've even tried calling you 8 different times during your open hours since making the initial online order and I've never got anything aside from voicemail. It's frustrating and completely unnecessary.

I'll have the seals in the mail by the end of the day.

To be clear, I did think that they were lying to me, but I wanted to keep this opinion to myself so that I could send them back for a refund and move on with my life as soon as possible.

Then I received this email
Hello

We are a very very busy shop and have 4 folks working for time, selling parts and servicing customers .

We rarely pick up the phone because it takes up so much time and we have to be very efficient given we are in NY and our property tax alone is $18k for 1/2 acre.

You have no idea the amount of tire kicker calls we get looking to pick our brain for free then they go and buy ebay junk or parts from folks who sell from their basement parts they pirate and sell off ebay.

There is a knowledge base with our parts and services that very few vendors have nowadays.

Our reputation comes from our no BS 25 years of expiration from Drag racing to big HP street cars and the fact that we repair anything including parts other inexperienced shops deem as garbage and still charge less than the competition.

  • At the end of that day (November 13) I sent the 11 side seals via USPS and sent goopy the Tracking number via email.

November 18
  • Received confirmation that USPS had delivered the package into their mailbox and sent an email to make sure that Goopy had received the package.

November 24 (today)
  • Sent an email asking why my refund had not been sent back.

At this point I have not been refunded the price of the seals, and I have not been contacted by Goopy since November 13, the day that I sent the seals back. I am hugely disappointed with the service I've gotten. Like I said, the housings do look great, but it wasn't worth it and I really wish I had just ordered from somewhere else and gotten my housings refurbished by a different shop.
Hopefully this all comes across as unbiased, I tried to not include what I was feeling through the whole interaction so that others can make judgements for themselves. In the mean time, I did purchase a set of 12 OEM side seals from Atkins and they have a completely different level of fit and finish, so make of that what you will.

I'll update this when/if I receive my refund. At this point they have had the seals I sent back for a full week and I haven't heard from them for nearly two weeks.

you don’t autocross? Results from 2 events a year will get you Mazda OE parts for wholesale through Mazda Motorsports. Nobody can convince me those refurbished rotor housings are as good as new ones.

Sure it is. You wouldn’t be in this situation otherwise . I’m sure Ray will take good care of you though.

December 3
  • After a couple more emails with no response I got an auto generated credit memo from quickbooks (which is not a refund) and I was told that the refund was sent.
  • I let them know that they aren't the same and sent a copy of the credit memo to Goopy
December 10
  • I didn't hear anything for a week and sent a few emails asking about the status of my refund. Eventually I got another email asking for my paypal address.
  • Sent my paypal address.

December 14
  • Sent my paypal address again and asked for the status of my refund

December 17
  • Received a refund via paypal

I seriously don't know how some small business owners can stay in business when they act so shady and get so defensive. I guess the moral of the story is that some people are ******** and it really do be like that sometimes.

Confirm the bad experience

I support everything this man says, goopy is the lowest in the rotary environment the 2 times I visit his poor 'machine shop' I felt like I was buying parts in a scrapyard ... bad businessman
