What i got was a stock pipe with the secondary cat completely busted and falling out.
I tried to remedy the situation and work something out, but received a "no" and go ahead and file a claim with paypal from his as a result. After 2 more pm's that have gone unanswered, i have done just that. Not to mention that he infers that i'm trying to scam him.

I'm sorry. I was going by what the mechanic who installed the new midpipe for me said. I'm not mechanical at all so i relied on him when asked if it was something I could sell. What can i do to make it right?

Thanks for the quick reply. I was a little heated earlier, so sorry if If there was a ton of attitude in my pm's. I gutted my stock cat a while back and it was a lot of work to get it to bust out. If it was already starting to break apart on its own, i can see how shipping could have rattled it loose i guess. They really aren't very fragile though. The box is in good shape and doesn't look like it was tossed around much, so i'm not sure.
Honestly, I'd like a refund if you're willing. I can pack it back up and send it back to you.

OK just let me chat with my mechanic in the morning, He has done a ton of work on my car and he and his partner both repair and race RX-8's here. I'm sorry but I was relying on his opinion of the condition. Tell me exactly if you can what the condition is now as you see it and why it's unusable. I'm not doubting you I just want him to explain how I could have gotten the wrong idea from him. Honestly this is the first thing I have ever sold like this and I've been a buyer hundreds of times so this kind of sucks it's not working out.

Way to post in public. 
I was thinking of throwing what's left of the cat on my car to see if it will work enough to pass inspection (no sniffer test) for the next owner. If it did, i was going to see if you'd give me a partial refund since I got a cat that was all busted up and not as advertised. If it didn't, I'd simply ask for a refund and send it back on my dime. If i file a dispute, it get sent back to you on my dime as well. Either way, I'm out of $40 because i ordered something that got to me broke.
I've been scammed by a buyer before through ebay. They waited 10 days to claim that the computer i sold them didn't work, and when i said that i'd be happy to return their money if they sent it to me to let me check it out, they filed a paypal claim and got their money back. When i got the computer back, it had been pried apart and beaten. I had to appeal the claim with pictures, a damage assessment from the local apple store, and had to file a police report to win my money back. Do you really think i'd try to scam you and risk having something this lame on my record?
Maybe your mechanic didn't notice it was coming apart already. You can only see the face of the fron cat, and a tiny bit of both of them through the O2 sensor hole. Maybe it got damaged in shipping. In either case, I'm getting screwed as the buyer because my money is gone, and I opened a box that had a catalytic converter that was busted up inside and dropping out pieces of it's honey comb.
If you'd like, i'll gladly send you some video of the pieces of cat rattling around in what you sent me, and pictures of what you sent next to my current gutted cat. Whenever you feel like manning up, maybe we can work something out.

Got the cat tuesday but haven't had a chance to look at it until today. Most of the internal catalyst material is broken and falling out in chunks and i can hear a lot more of it rattling inside. What gives? Your thread said it was in good shape. I've gutted one before and know how much it takes to break it out if it's in good shape, so i doubt it was from shipping.

My mechanic said no way that my cat was in that condition when it came off my car. It has at most the original 50k miles and is one of the best maintained 8's in town. Go ahead and keep bellyaching to the forum if you feel the need or send in a dispute to Paypal. Let's just say I'm completely clueless AND playing it well and let everyone know how that works out for you. And no I will not pay for you to ship your old broken down cat to me so I can put it on my car, take it to the dealer, swap it for a new one and ship you back a brand new cat. No.
