You have $10k for a project car, what do you buy?

Wassup guys, my first post in this fine site and i couldnt help but notice this thread. After I started reading I couldnt believe how u ppl forgot about the dodge stealth r/t(300hp,turbo, awd) or mitsu 3000gt. Mr2 turbo is a great car and a 93+ is the best years to buy but 91-2 are great aswell. If the person who started this thread(forgot who it was) still hasnt purchased a ride then pm me if you wish and I will sent some information about the differeneces between the 93 and 91(I was looking into buying one so i did alot of reasearch)its a great car if the 2 seats dont bother you, otherwise I highly reccomend a 95 stealth rt, very tough cars and power is cheap aswell you really cant go wrong with it(if its in good condition which most of the ones Ive seen are).Out of all the cars listed on this thread I would pick the stealth to be my car no questions asked, the m3 I dont know much about, im sure its a good car but the repair costs will be a pain in the *** and insurance aswell. If you like that expensive look and feel, remember that a brand new stealth was priced at around $60 000 if I remember correctly which you can buy now for around 16k canadian. The extra few grand on top of your 12-15k will be worth it.

True but deadly in a striaght line and a nice ride to own none-the-less, it all comes down to personal preference and well that would be my preference out of the cars listed in the thread. I still want a RSX or RX8 though lol

I drove a stealth once, it had good power but everything else was pretty lacking. It took a long time to stop. I would like something a little more agile, I'm not too concerned about straight line speed. 0-60 in 7 seconds would be fine for me as long as it can stop and turn.
I got to drive the E30 M3 I found, it went like stink, the guy had done some engine upgrades, he claimed 250 at the crank, felt like it. The body was in shitty condition, rusting away and the interior was in shambles. It is proving difficult to get drives in some of these cars in the winter, I might hang out until spring. Hopefully by that time their are more decent un modded cars on the market.

The E30 M3 is a great car, Legendary might even apply. It was the first car I ever lapped a track with and I will always love that car. Finding a decent one is going to be a tough task though. The guys that still have them in good shape horde them and will probably take them to their grave. 5-10 years ago that wasn't the case, but now you've got guys collecting them and instantly snapping up any that are in decent condition for parts cars.
The MR2s are hard to find because they are still very good autox cars and tuners have also taken a liking to them.
Most DSMs are going to be modded to hell and or ragged out.
Have you considered a Civic? :p

I agree with the Mustang sentiments. You can pick one up for cheap and the mods are both plentiful and cheap (relatively). As for the handling... people here say the 8 is great, but then go and add coilovers and new anti-roll bars. Give the Mustang the same opportunity... drop US $2-5k in the suspension and then see how badly it handles. Nobody would say that a Saleen Mustang handles like a dog...
The 5.0 Miata isn't a bad idea either... seen that plus a s/c on one in a mag... talk about a fast car...

A little update:
I took a 1971 911S targa for a spin on Tuesday. The fit and finsih of the car was about as perfect as you could want for a daily driver. It's not a concourse car, but I was blown away by the state of everything. The drivetrain was apparently completely overhauled 2 years ago, the engine is now from a later model (73 I think) pushing out a little over 200 hp with some tuning and it felt like it. The car was fun fun fun to drive, light, nimble, a lot scary at times, good clutch feel. I was impressed. He was asking 17500 canadian. I'm thinking about it.

Would be a fun car to have, but unless you think you can do all your own maintenance upkeep is going to be very pricey. I would imagine parts aren't exactly cheap or easy to come by either.

That's what I am worried about too. I can do all the wrench swinging, or most of it anyway, but the parts might be too expensive. I have a freind that runs a 944 turbo in SCCA events so I will see where he gets all his parts.
