Uhm... dont forget one thing... its made on an SLK base... yes...
but thats the OLD SLK chassis. Not the new one.

So the new SLK is actually still better than the Crossfire...
not that its any better than the old one in the first place. :p

Clearly someone who drives a ford has a bigger ***** than someone who drives a mazda.

This clearly is the thinking of a adolescent. Can we call it a day and close this thread? Or at least ignore it and let it die?

Talking

I'm afraid even Mercedes will not be able to rescue Chrysler from its own reputation. Let's face it, they build crap. I have many friends who got burned with Chrysler and swear they will never buy another. Several now drive Mazdas ( I admit I had something to do with that ).
So us RX8 owners are in trouble? I don't think so. If anything, the Crossfire will make our cars look even better.

I think you just made everyone reading this thread dumber. What are you like 10? Who the hell cares, we bought 8's, so why are you trying to change the mind of people that already bought 8's? Obviously you can't afford an 8 and probily drive a base focus, but don't be mad cause we can afford nice cars, and do real world research. get a clue. Just cause one (that was paid) mag to give it a good review out of like 500 does not mean it is a good car. Have a good day.

This week's Autoweek's cover story is on the new Crossfire SRT-6 (June 21, 04) which is their special refined performance model (like a Mazda Speed model).

http://autoweek.com/search/search_di...07208&record=1

So it's got bigger breaks, stiffer shocks, meatier tires and a supercharged 18-valve V6 engine (which is straight out of the SLK/AMG using a 5 speed automatic AutoStick). Plus, a nifty new rear wing and front air dam. Curb weight of the car is 3240 pounds. All priced at $45,696.

IMHO, I'd stlll enjoy the RX-8 over the ST-6

:D

Who cares? The 8 is fast enough, and unless you're in competition, I could care less which car is .2 sec. faster 0-62.3 MPH. When I'm driving my car, I am not thinking "gee, that's almost as fast as..." I drive for the enjoyment of it, not the statistics. When you're 16, you memorize the trap speeds- when you're older, the play's the thing.

MHO
Crossfire: MB engineering + German assembly = very decent pedigree.
SRT/6: MB engineering + German assembly + AMG parts = one more for the RWD sports car revival.

JohnnyB = I'd rather not comment.

I read the article as well. It has the recirculating ball and a 0.38Cd.

IMO, the SRT-6 is a very promising cruiser. Good for the autobahn; bad for the twisties.

That would be the Top Gear review on the BBC. Jeremy didn't like the car at all.

His summary went something like this:

Looks like a dog doing a poo
slow
uncomfortable
expensive
cramped interior with a narrow trunk
awful gearbox
no back seat
engine doesn't make any sporty sounds
ride is terrible
isn't even economical

on the other hand, you may have already seen his review of the RX-8 .... he raved about it. The only fault he found was a bit of nervousness on wet roads.

when you say not some uk journalists... are u talkin about top gear ppl who reviewed the 8 and gave it really high marks? those drivers and reviewers from top gear are all former f1 drivers... not (sorry for you nascar fans) some hill billy folk that only know how to turn left. (no offense)

You guys are in even more trouble than jonnyb says... earlier today I heard someone on the street say that they thought the Maserati Quattroporte was a great car. Since it has 4 doors and a back seat, I guess you better start worrying about sales of the RX-8........

Hold on i think I have something crazy in my ear. A Crossfire getting a good review? I think the write-up sounded more like this -

"Of course the Crossfire is a great car. It is a real technical marvel. Can I have my money now?"

I treat Crossfires the way I treat rice rockets, Z cars, people who can't drive their 4th Gen Supras/Corvette Z06's, etc.: I WASTE EM.' I hate to be xenophobic, but the American engineering that was put into was once again terrible. Is there any domestic car out there that has a quality build to it? I'm not biased, because I love the Corvette. Okay never mind I am.

It's not all bad. If a German manufacturer like Audi came out with the Northstar engine, we would all be ooing and ahhing over it. The Corvette is also not a bad piece either- in fact, it's hard to match it's performance no matter what you spend.

Unfortunately, American manufacturers have lost people like you as customers, and perhaps even deservedly so, given the way they took their customers for granted for so long. But are there good American cars out there, and quality wise, the gap has narrowed to the point where it is no longer an issue.
Believe me, they ARE listening hard.
