Has anyone here gone to a Wyotech or another Automotive Technology school? I will be applying to Wyotech soon and just wanted to see if anyone here has a career out of a Auto Tech school and if so what do you do? I'll be taking the Advanced Automotive Diagnostics program out of the Balirsville PA campus.

 

I went to a vocational technical school for high school. I went for auto mechanics. It was a great program. It was 3 weeks of normal high school classwork then 3 weeks in the auto shop on a rotating schedule for all 4 years.
That setting has no basis really for what you are looking at but I bet the curriculum is the same or similar. I would absolutely recommend doing a program like that if you are into fixing cars.
They teach a lot about theory and history of the major automotive systems. They break down the systems in detail so you can learn about how things work and why they fail and proper procedures for testing and diagnosing problems.
The knowledge gained in invaluable when it comes to applying for a job in the auto mechanics field. Not to mention it sets you apart form all the shade tree mechanics out there that give the auto trade a bad name.
Shortly after graduating, my family bought out a local independent shop and we went into business for ourselves. With my fathers disciplined military backround in mechanics and the education I got from school on how to do things properly the first time and the years of experience I've gotten since we have made a pretty good name for ourselves.
I say if you have the means, go for it!
