Wrecked my econobox...need a better used sedan
Yes, I'm a troll that loves rx-8's and not ashamed to say just can't have one because of the wife. So without flaming I was wondering what you guys thought of this car:

I know it's not a mazda but I need a car soon and it's the most loaded car I can find for the price, I talked them down 1,000 to 13,995. I checked out some mazda 6's around here but they all have higher mileage or are ragged out. Just wanted some opinions from the most mature car forum I have ever trolled around on.
By the way I live in TX now so don't think I am driving 1000 miles for a pontiac.
Thanks, Nick.

The pointiac G6 is the most un-inspiring car i have ever driven. And i DD a 2004 hyundai elantra.
First let's start here. I had a rental 2008 Pontiac G6 with 20k miles so it was plenty broken in. They utilize some sort of electronic throttle system, or maybe the throttle body just sucks that bad. A good second or two is required for the engine to rev as you touch the gas pedal.
The car is a boat. I have no idea what the weight is, but it feels right around 3600 pounds.
The power is lackluster. I had the 220hp/220tq 3.5 liter version. Whilst the GTP does have more power, 250hp i believe. I can't imagine it being that much quicker.
Fuel mileage, i couldn't get over 20mpg highway with cruise control. Such a poorly designed engine. For the craptastic gas mileage, combined with the poor performance, every other V6 in it's class puts out far better numbers.
Coming from my Elantra it was a lot more spacious and luxurious, but a couple days of driving and the interior felt like any other car, boring.
Get a newer maxima or accord. Far better vehicles in my opinion.

Wouldn't even consider it. It's probably way better than the Grand Am it replaced but that's not saying much at all. There has got to be much better options out there for that price.
I can't imagine how horrible that 3.9L V6 sounds like at WOT and how annoyed I would get at the 4sp auto attempting to move that thing around. It's a rental car.

Guys,
Thanks for the reply's. I only drove the car around the block so far, but coming from my econobox which was a 2005 mitsu lancer (non-evo)
-I wouldn't say it was uninspiring. Definitely not inspiring but not terrible.
-The auto does suck but I'm in Dallas traffic everyday so maybe not so bad.
-Love the look of the new Maxima's. Hate the saber tooth look of the old. Altima's ok but higher mileage and generally I don't like the interiors of Nissans.
-GTO out of the question because of the lack of 2 more doors. I am at the "family" stage of my life and need a 4 door. I have actually gotten into arguments with my wife about getting an rx-8 but in the end the car is not worth arguing with my wife over (I know some will disagree).
Well guys as I said for the most part I respect your opinions on vehicles and appreciate the input. IF I end up buying this car I will have to deal with the stigma of it being a chick car, but I'm ok with that. Hell, miata's are great fun to drive but everyone knows the stigma they carry. Anyways, thank you and keep your cars in good shape so after my kids are grown if I can't find an old 90's fd or 300z in good shape I can get an rx-8!!

Honestly, I'm biased toward Mazda, but I have my reasons. I simply think they make the best cars at the best prices right now - in all classes. I've driven the Civic, the Corolla, Vibe/Matrix, G6, Camry, Accord - lots of Mazda's competition, and none of them have stacked up. Most of them have this scary, disconnected steering feel that drives me nuts, and about half of them have really vague brake pedals that are equally disconcerting.
They're all really well built, but I enjoy driving, and none of the cars from these other companies stack up. If you're just going for reliability and "it's a vehicle," or if you see driving as a chore, I'd advise you to look elsewhere. But if you want a car that's inspiring even without mods and drives like a much more expensive vehicle, stick with Mazda.

when we moved out to CT we made do with an accord since we had a newborn daughter. that was fine but eventually we knew needed a second car and she "twisted my arm" to get the 8. btw, we had my son before i bought it and we even went on a spring run with the whole family. no need to give up fun just b/c you're married or have kids.
