Dang, and I was going to suggest a 370Z as well. I didn't like them all that much until I saw a subtle burgundy one with a wine-colored convertible top, optioned entirely out, just chilling at a GA Tech tailgate. Whew.

For that price point, I'd go used. You could get a rockin' 05-07 STI (back when they were more hardcore) with perhaps a few choice mods on it, or perhaps a nice E46 M3. I'd have that over the Z4 or M coupe, which I find too swoopy and weirdly proportioned. Give me the more classic BMW brick shape please.

What about a sleeper, then? A Mazdaspeed6 in great condition will set you back maybe $16k and you can pocket the rest for mods or a big TV (which you can then carry home in the trunk). Or perhaps the Ford Taurus SHO (aka the unloved Ford performance car) - it's got something like 365 horsepower in a completely unassuming package. With AWD.

My opinion?

BMW 135i (I like their sleeper status and the simplicity of them)
BMW Z4 (don't like the brand new one though)
Porsche Cayman
5.0 Mustang (hate Mustangs, but drive this one. Its a smile machine)
WRX/STi
C5 Z06 (you won't find a faster car for the money)

I'd go American or European. Japan unfortunately isn't doing much. If money weren't an issue I'd probably go European. But it is for me so an American hotrod is very tempting, or of course a motorcycle.

Haha! And I came when I saw your sig. I want I want I want I want!

Don't like the TT but I love the S5/ RS5. If only I had the money.....
If I got a Scooby, it'd be the '11+ models, so far my favorite since the classic GC8s.

Time to rewind, take a deep breath and think again about the best car to get next..... the soon to be revealed - at the LA Auto Show...

Porsche Cayman CS

...all kinds of conjecture and opinion about its makeup including....relative to a Cayman S ...

up to 200lbs lighter
better brakes
deleted interior/comfort bits
track focused
more powerful
better handling (!)
Bolt-in optional roll cage

....now we're talking!

Just took a look at some blogs, I'm all for shedding weight but the "heavier steering" and fixed duck tail spoiler kill it for me. It's tempting but 13 extra hp isn't noticeable and I can do some weight saving with my own mods. ...the second look at the Cayman makes me want one again.

Took me long enough but finally bought something. So I guess this is the winner... for now. Who knows what I'll buy next. Glad to have my clown shoe/shooting-brake.

It's too bad 'Hitman' left the forum or I'd send him on down (j/k).

Good to be in! (And out of the econo-box X.x) Thanks! Kinda wish I could have all the cars listed but hey we can't all win the lotto.

I'll be hopping on the BMW/ Z/ M forums soon but any pointers I should think about with the car to start?
