Why buy a V6 Mustang, V6 Camaro, V6 Firebird, etc?

I think it is our business what other people drive. I had an ex gf that wanted to buy a v6 mustang convertible. It took every weapon in my arsenal to prevent that from happening. It was very traumatizing and led to our break up. She ended up with the GT though, and then she gained weight after our break up, so I won twice :D I have had similar experiences with other people. It would be nice if that type of headbutting never happened. It would never happen if they didn't offer these cars!!
I really only care if it is someone I know, partly because I want to drive their cars.

her younger brother is still a good freind of mine. We always hang out and I often see her. I have also met all her bf's since, and well, I deserve better :p
I still drive her car all the time. Her parents give me the keys when she is out of town. She doesn't really like that too much, but, her parents like me and feel sorry for how poor I am. I raced her car one weekend at a Solo I event, antics ensued when she returned.

I seem to remember when the RX7 was in the 2nd gen, the sales figure showed that the sales of regular RX7's (GXL, GTU, convertibles etc.) were something in the order of 4X to 5X of that of the Turbo II's. Later in introducing the 3rd generation without a non-turbo, sales plummeted (that and they got bloody expensive). 80% of buyers that look for something sporty don't really care about performance, they want the sporty looks, & the money savings. We've all heard the reasons. "I don't drive that fast anyways," what's the point I am going to be stuck in traffic, etc. This is not just Mustangs. The #1 selling model of the Porsche 911 lineup last year was the Carrera 4S with tiptronic, pretty much the slowest model of the lineup. people want the looks, but don't want the inconveniece of manual. Look how many buyers of big sport untes there are, that never even once go offroading with the SUV.

Mustang V6 experience
Hi all:
I just spent a week driving new base (V6) Mustang rental car through northern AZ (PHX --> Sedona and Grand Canyon). While the new Mustang turns heads and has some reasonable *****, overall I was disappointed in the experience. The handling of the Mustang is coarse and ponderous. Overall it just didn't feel tightly made; quality seemed lacking. It was also difficult to find a comfortable driving position. I'm told the Mustang GT is a completely different car with very different (better) components, performance and handling. Although, here in CA, GT's are running about $35,000 (ouch!).
I owned a 1980 Mustang Turbo (a real disaster - but that's another story) and the new Mustang feels very similar. Just not very well engineered, not refined. In a way the new Mustang seems true to the original Mustang: a cheap, sporty car for the everyman. Overall the experience made me appreciate my 8 all the more.

PS: Where are all the 8's in AZ? In 500 miles of diriving last week, I didn't see one RX-8 in AZ

The new V-6 stang has more HP than the 5.0 from the 80's and early 90s. The one that every guy in high school at that time drooled over.
Secondly, I wouldnt buy a new mustang, even the New 450 Hp cobra. Being an Rx-8 owner, I prefer handling over straight line power.

In retrospect, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to post this on an RX-8 forum. Like a V6 Mustang, it could be argued that the performance of the RX-8 might not neccesarily be up to snuff with it's agressive looks. This one apparently hit close to home for a few.
