Just bought my RX8 this past week as a Christmas present to myself. I traded in my 98 BMW M3 Convertible with some suspension mods. I like the RX8 but it doesn't handle nearly as well as my M3 did. Too much body roll, but will work on that.....

2000 V-6 5-spd Camaro. Mystic Teal, T-tops (sure miss them!), factory LSD, Z-28 front bar, Koni shocks. I love rear wheel drive. It's one of the main reasons I went w/ the '8.

'72 Ford Pinto ;D -> '73 Datsun 610 -> '73 Datsun 240Z-> '77 Datsun 280Z-> '80 Datsun 280ZX-> '92 BMW 318is-> '91 Mazda Miata-> '92 Toyota 4Runner-> '01 Honda Odyssey-> '05 RX-8 PW Sport 6spd

Still have the Miata, Ody and 8, wish I still had the 240z but glad I don't have the pinto

edited: forgot about the 318- the tranny went within a thousand miles of warranty end, interior bits were falling apart and the dealer was claiming it was from abuse! even the pinto had a stronger tranny.

Well...

I've owned 115 cars in 13 years, from a UK-market Chevette (my first road/legal licence car) to a Porsche 924S and various others.

The Mazda is coming in direct replacement of my 2004 Beetle Cabrio, which was chosen on purely logical reasons but ultimately was much loved - very capable little car - only spoiled by the dealer's refusal to make any effort at fixing a leak. I understand cars can have build errors, but I expect them to be fixed at some point.

Spiritually, it is replacing several of my past cars - the Porsche for one, my X1/9, my Opel Manta. Plus it is adding something, my first ever rotary engined car - I nearly bought an NSU Ro80, but I hated the semi-automatic gearbox. It is also the most expensive new car I have 'owned', but is contract hired so it doesn't entirely count.

It is also replacing potential future cars. Typically I can own up to 5 cars at a time, because I want a convertible, a RWD sports car, a practical estate car, maybe a small banger for running about... I am a little obsessed with cars. I recently found I could insure my Sera cheaply, so that is my small car, my classic car, and my unusual car - the RX is going to be my RWD car, my sports car and indeed, my practical car as it seats four with more ease than the Beetle or Sera ever did.

I'm hoping that for the next two years, I keep myself to these two cars - my Sera, and the Mazda. If I manage it and the savings on feeding my old car hobby are real, I may buy an RX later, or try and buy the RX I'll be leasing if it proves to be reliable.

http://home.btconnect.com/dmc12/allcars/ should have links to past cars and my spreadsheet. I'm not sure if the Porsche is counted on there because it was originally my mother's car - she only did 2,500 miles in it a year, then people tried to steal it and she wouldn't touch it again, so I had it for a few months whilst it was repaired and for sale.

This guy:

it's a 1998, gonna be hard for me to part with it, but I really have no need for this and the Rx8. very contrasting engine dynamics to the '8, since the Audi has about 240 ft-lb Torque but only about 200 bhp. it's really only happy from about 3200 rpm (when turbo kicks in) to about 5500 rpm, again a contrast to the Renesis.

I came from a 2002 Ford Focus with a few mods: Hella Projector Head lights and tails, 15 inch Team Dynamic wheels 12.5 lbs each, Steeda Short throw, Steeda Intake, JBA shorty header, FC High Flow Cat, 2.5 inch full custom exhaust, Steeda 65mm TB, FR Underdrive pully, Screamin Deamin Coil pack, Live wires, Denso Iridium Plugs, Eibach Sportline Pro Plus kit, and a full Nitrous Express Wet kit, complete with heater, opener, rpm window switch, wot switch, fuel pressure safety switch, and purge. It ran a best of 14.2 in the quarter with nitrous, with out the juice a best of 15.4.

Retired (but kept) a very modified '95 Mazda MX-6 LS as a daily driver.
The MX-6 replaced a '88 Porsche 944T.

I had an 02 Sebring GTC convertable. I only bought it because I had to have a car and the RX-8s weren't out yet in my area. I am so glad I got rid of that one and got my 8.

I drive a 96' Pontiac Grand Prix with 222,000 miles on it as my winter beater. That's 10 years or driving with very few issues. My parents owned it, then my brother, now we all share it year round depending on who needs a backup car. No trans or engine rebuild. Most significant work needed on it was replacing the head gasket.

Now back to the subject. Prior to the 8, I drove a slightly modified 2002 Ford Focus.
