R32 is now a VW hatchback as well, hooray to Veedub for being f-ingconfusen as opposed to fahvergnugenorsomething.

I'm no rice boy, but I do know that the EG wasn't introduced until 92.

Actually introduced in some markets in October 91 for the 92 model year.

All VINs for the 8 contain FE, even the Australian and Japanese ones, however the factory model code is SE3P.

It is deserving that the 8 gets a new sequence of model code since it is not directly related to the FC and FD RX7s.

I believe that it maybe purely coincidence that FE appears in the VIN, since afterall, it is an RX8 series I not an RX7 series IX.

Do search on Google with either SE3P and FE and see what you come up with.
You will find that the RX8 is known worldwide as being the SE3P model designation.

Don't worry about it; some people have nothing else going on in their life except this message board.

Scroll down and enjoy... (Please note, this is from the Mazda Australia web site, I did a search...):

http://www.mazda.com.au/articleZone1...cleZoneID=2568

Vehicle = RX-8
Model = FE

Imagine that, there is nothing that says "SE3P."

Damn, I hate being right. :p :p :p

It's time for some people to put their tail between their legs and call it a night...

Mazda Australia knows nothing about their cars!!!

They never proof read their stuff either:
the new MPS 6 has a 17JJ wheel
http://www.mazda.com.au/currentnews....cleZoneID=3209

Do you trust where the car is made from or not! SE = I have not mention this coz now I cannot find the source anymore - is the Type S.

You can have your FE - I will have my SE - ok?

This is from the Mazda worldwide site:

http://www.mazda.com/environment/2003/pdf/e200329.pdf

On the far left the RX8 is listed with all its specs.

As far as Mazda Australia is concerned, we Aussies think they are a bunch of idiots.
Just ask any Australian forum member.

Don't be too happy that is what I mean. - the whole range is called SE3P

Screw Mazda Australia - they never know what they are talking about. I am going to meet some of them tomorrow and I AM going to tell them off.

http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...2coff=1&q=SE3P

http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...f=1&q=Mazda+FE

I'd go with the SE3P designation as being correct. 2 Searches brought up totally different things...

Note that I didn't even type in "Mazda" with SE3P, and it brought up pics of 8's. I had to actually type in Mazda to even get pictures of any cars when I searched "FE."

Back to the original question. FD stands for Financial Disaster--JK, I love my FD, even if it gives me Frequent Distress. I personally hope that they don't make the code for the next gen 7 FF. I can see all the tuners coming up with clever takes on "Fast" and "Furious". First gen 7's were originally SA, so maybe we can continue in the S theme.

Sorry Taka....I'm with zoom44 on this one.

It's an FE. That's what it's got in the VIN......it's good enough for me. Bugger the Japanese....we won the war! Just 'cos they own the northern part of Australia and all of Hawaii, doesn't mean they can go and name the cars they make!

Your good mate,

Gomez.

As long as people know about FE and SE3P then I am ok... you can name the car RX-1000 if you like

I don't have an 8, but I did have a CYM FD and that vin started FD3S and if the VIN for the 8 says FE, then it's an FE thats how the designations work .
Just FYI, the current Skyline/G35C platform is V35

I think there's overwhelming evidence saying it's SE3P.... Why does it HAVE to be an FE? Does that F in front really mean that much to you guys?

This same debate rages for the 1st gen RX-7 as well. There are some who like to call the 1st gen the FB, but in fact the chassis code is SA22C. Same thing for the RX-8, people want to call it the FE, fine. Call it whatever you like, I call mine the RX-8. But the chassis code is SE3P, that's a fact and has nothing to do with the VIN.

Since some like to credit "Initial D" for making the "FD" a popular nickname for the 3rd gen RX-7, guess what's in the Initial D video game for the RX-8?

Well the whole population of Japan prob call it a RX-8...

Only the car lovers in Japan call it by SE3P.

Who cares?! We are just letting people know they can't just make up a name - have to come out from the source - Japan

like I said, do a google search, and SE3P turns up alot of pics of the RX-8...

Search FE, and it doesn't turn up anything, even when you type in "Mazda FE."

Think of it like this: everyone is right. Like mine, it is an SA/FB. However, not ALL SA/FB's came with a 12A like was posted earlier. The 84 & 85 SE like mine in the avatar is a 13B EFI the first in the 7's. FD I do believe, this according to a few buddies who have them, stands for frequently down. Even still the most popular body style of them all. Of course this is subjective depending upon who you are talking to.

The GDA/GGA is the typical WRX, the GDB/GGB denotes the STi.
To add to the nerdiness here I had to clear this up being a former GC6 owner.

"GC8" is the commonly used term to refer to the WRX in Japan & Europe but there's more to it than that.

G = Impreza model
C = 4 dr sedan
8 = JDM/EDM EJ20 engine.

In the US though. we got the GM6 or GC6.
G = Impreza model.
M = 2 dr coupe
C = 4 dr sedan
6 = USDM EJ25(pre=STi) engine.

Edit: Oh. Just in case,
F = Wagon (pre-2002 Imprezas)
